One Million Light Years

That was a nice read, thanks for sharing the journey, maps, and story.

When I played at launch I can remember spending night after night traveling to different systems, checking all ports, writing down commodity prices (on select high priced commodities, not all! lol) and then after what felt like weeks of fine tuning a three and four stop trade route. One of the ports was 111k ls out, but i think it had platinum at low price, whew somehow i still had fun. I can remember getting all excited at each port if I made 100,000 on a fully loaded type 7... It took, idk 5 mos to make 200 million.

There was about 5% of content and game play as now. I remember when beam weapons came out (or I learned about them) and was like omgosh I have to earn how much, and oh no that's gonna take me another 2 weeks to afford a set of four. I stopped playing, even though i loved the concept of the game, there was no way I was gonna put that much time in a game. Then I came back last November and within the first 20 mins thought, this isn't the same game at all. Hopped on Inara, found a trade route, loaded up the 10yr old d rated anaconda (that I only flew a few hours before I stopped playing because I didnt have enough for insurance) traveled 150 ly's from where I was to a port, loaded up did the round trip, and made 30 million in one go! I have enough for insurance now and thought, yup not even the same game in that regards and have been hooked since then.

Thanks for letting me share some of my member berries, and again great post. O7 Commander!

I think you touched on something very special in Elite Dangerous.
The dynamic relationship between the internal development of the game and the 3rd party external tools that have been created to address or workaround some aspects of the games.

I have never seen that with any games. There are definitely a lot of mods for some other big games but not like with Elite where everything complement the game as it can't really be modified from it's code base (if that makes sense).

I've started thinking about how much this game really cost me as I started supporting the different tools I use (Inara, EDSM, etc) and how much some CMDRs have given their free time to make the game more enjoyable for a lot of us, I am eternally grateful :)
