One off economic events. It's not broken.

Fellow commanders and FDev, please consider this in the discussion and decision making process.

Tulip mania – For about six months (Nov. 1636 – May 1637) some people paid the equivalent of 10X the average craftsman’s yearly salary for ONE tulip. There was a chance to make/lose a lot money during that short period.

The California Gold Rush – In the late 1840’s in the US, gold was discovered in California. Thousands flocked to the area in search of riches. Some found it, most did not. “Gold fever” died out in fairly short order, but during that time there was a chance to get filthy rich if you put in the time.

Getting in at the right time – If you bought Google or Apple stock early, you are looking good today. Same thing with Bitcoin, Facebook, anda host of others. These kinds of economic events come along every so often and reward those who participate.
There are hundreds/thousands of other examples. My point isthat FDev should celebrate the fact that one off events like Sothis, Smeaton, et.al. happen. They should let players bask in it while it runs. This model mimics “real world” economics only on a galactic scale. I for one like that about the game.

For the sake of balance, maybe pirating would, for a short time, reap unimaginable rewards. Yay pirates! Then some time later smuggling in some part of the galaxy would make so many credits for short time that commanders with the right rig and skillset would get soooo rich. On another occasion, mining low temp diamonds would make 50X the normal rate just because some new technology or process needs them that bad. Where’s my mining laser! And, on it would go for the other play styles/roles. It wouldbe great fun.

I’m not saying let money pumps run indefinitely. But, don’t let a handful of vocal haters alter the fabric of the game. It’s not broken, it really should occuring the game IMHO.

The galaxy needs a good Tulip mania shot in the arm occasionally.J

Fly safe commanders.
