One Simple suggestion that could nullify the Solo/Open argument AND end the fear of Greifing

Simple really....

Just don't differentiate players and NPC's on the scanner.

1) You can't greif players if you cant't distinguish them from AI's
2) It would make interdictions so much more unpredictable and exiting.
3) It would completely eliminate the need for a solo mode, hence eliminate the switching exploits and all the arguing...

hmmm, I kinda like knowing who the players are. Going solo seems viable for people who really don't want to run the risk.

Personally I think this is a decent idea. However, I don't know if anonymity in this way would alleviate the more paranoid of the player base. From an immersion point of view I agree completely. I just don't think it will address what you think it will.

So in order to stop those PvP players from bounty hunting, robbing traders and murder civilians, you grief them by making everyone look like a NPC?

Would LOVE it. It was discussed during beta and all the PvP players boohoo'd it.

The horse is dead. Suggest we quit tilting at windmills and address issues that might actually have a chance.

I would have preferred that there not be a separate solo/open play. And the idea of not identifying player/NPC I approve of too. But those decisions were made before my time here and I think it's a waste of time trying to change them now.

Only on the radar. They would know once they scanned you.
How about local chat then? It's often easier to find players using local chat + cycling targets rather than trying to get hold of the empty squares. I suppose you could make local chat not identify the ship type. All you're essentially doing though is making it harder work for me to scan every new target in the system. Wouldn't make it much slower really. Without removing the CMDR prefix, or actually names completely IDing humans doesn't take much work.

I personally see far more players in open than when I am in solo if that helps.

I lol'ed

But seriously I don't get the whole fear thing, I have been playing open mode exclusively and I don't think I have been interdicted by a CMDR yet only NPC's as I am trading and have no wanted status so no CMDR's seem interested the whole solo thing just seems kinda pointless when you can play a persistent world with others.

you wouldn't play WoW in solo mode!

I would like it for conflict zones.
But I don't like it for anything else.

I wonder since a time why we have open and solo and not "open with PvP" and "open without PvP" or as some suggested a flag to mark PvP wanted or not.
Solo is really a bit very isolated and since we have a permanent online game now the "solo" doesn't really makes so much sense. But it could be keept next to a new open PvE mode. But yeah I can hear the pirates crying already ..no victims anymore.
