One step forward and two steps back..

So, I'm trying to get a system permit. In order to achieve this I have to do missions for that specific faction, as they don't control a station outside of said system.

However, ever so often I do a mission for them that actually lowers my reputation in that faction.

Why is that? How can I see if a mission actually lowers my reputation with the faction that offered me the mission on the first hand?

Stick to the delivery missions, I stopped after it told me to kill traders in another system and then lost rep for it. The cargo missions are really easy too, just buy all the surrounding trade data and use the filter to find what you need.

Let's just say a good part of the Reputation System and parts of the Mission System is pretty messy.

And just wait until you get the Permit for the System that "has such an interesting description" - only to enter it and find.... nothing special.
(a few permit Systems actually hold some Trade opportunities - but that's actually it for them; they're all the same and hold nothing that would even remotely warrant for achieving a permit of any sort)

I own a whole Page of System Permits... Apart from one being a really nice Trade hub - nothing to see there, move along.

PS.
If the Faction you're working to gain Reputation with has a Station or at least an Outpost with a Commodities Market - rather trade high-profit items into these instead.
Works much faster (if you can haul large Cargo loads) than grinding Bulletin Missions, several of which could be buggy.
Could very likely be, though, that after being Friendly/Allied to them from the Trading, you still need to do a few Bulletin Missions just to trigger the Permit Reward.

Dumping large loads of rare goods on them is also a solid method, if your Cargo space isn't the biggest around.

Yep can't tell you how disappointed I was when I got an Alioth permit, a sort of "oh is that it" moment
