One thing I was wondering about docking...

How do large ships dock in coriolis? (e.g. Viper Mk II)
Can they access the station or do they have to look for larger ones?

I'm pretty sure that the main hatch is big enough to allow all the playable ships to access the station. The only question is how much extra skill the large ship pilots are going to need to squeeze through the hole!

If you look at that picture of the Anaconda, the parking space would not be enough.

which seems kind of weird...

Based on the youtube vids, there are (at least) two sizes of landing pad, the larger of which are able to fit the bigger ships. The players are currently using the smaller pads for their Sidewinders and Cobras.

Ah, thanks for the clarification! Only saw a few docking videos so far and didn't notice there were bigger landing pads.
Have a nice day :)

I'm assuming I can match the roll of the station for a nice smooth docking process? Please say yes... please...

Based on the video's you have to manually roll your ship to match the station while you're outside*, but the roll is automatically compensated for when you're inside.

*The smaller ships may be able to dock without bothering about roll if they simply aim for the center of the docking hatch, as long as their width isn't more than the height of the hatch + a reasonable safety margin.

Yes but surely there will be an option to match the roll of the station or using an analog slider or something that allows you to match the roll. Kind of looked lame having to pulse the thrusters with no real inertia to maintain the roll. I mean there has to be a ship upgrade or something that eventually leads to this no? Visually it looked amazing but technically it left me with more questions.

So theres a countdown timer of 10 minutes to land on a pad.

If the 10 minutes expires, do you need to exit the station and re-request docking clearance ?

If someone is queued to dock after you (I assume there are docking queues), does that mean they have to wait that 10 minutes, plus the unspecified time it takes for you to exit the station ?

When you request to launch, do you need to wait if another ship is in the process of docking, which may take about 10 minutes?

Just curious how the queuing system works and whether more than 1 ship is allowed to be flying inside the station at one time.

Maybe something like a "Docking computer" eh..

So if you are waiting for docking -- does shooting and destroying the ship in front of you save 10 mins?

Well a docking computer of some kind sure but we still don't know if that will just automate the process or enhance it. I'm kind of curious if the game is supporting rotational intertia in that situation.

I would imagine it would :D

It will probably take the station defenses less than 30 seconds to destroy you, which offcourse leaves you back in the station in way under 10 mins.

Good thinking!

This assumes you last docked there, and will leave you significantly poorer for the experience in both reputation and credits.

I saw several Anacondas docked.
More than one ship can fit through the tiny looking airlock that's much bigger than it looks.
I doubt you'd last 5 seconds if the dock attacks you ..I didn't anyway!
The 10 minutes wasn't a problem for me.
It was the 2 minutes until reallocation that got me. Apparently an issue of your clearance being given away is a problem. You can just request new clearance to land though but if you don;t set down pretty quick you may be looking for another pad just before you set down. Be ready for that.
If you have anyone else on your interenet besides yourself get ready for them to be disconnected when you watch your bright ship circling before you as you try to login.
It's MUCH easier to get in if you were saved to an 'instance' other than the government space dock instance.
If you can get in I'd suggest just staying away from the dock until they fix it. Just make a lot of credits!

What you seem to be looking for can be accomplished by aligning your ship straight towards the docking port and the either gently roll at the same speed with the help of an analog controller or disable flight assist and let the ship continue to roll due to inertia while you keep on moving forward.

David Braben was asked precisely this question at the BAFTAs. The recorded presentation can be heard at Lave Radio. Basically, all the ships to which we currently have access are civilian vessels and the largest can *just* barely squeeze through the station entrances. The Coriolis station is much, much, MUCH bigger than in the original game. The entrance may not feel that large when you fly through, but I'm sure many Cobras could fly in and out simultaneously.

He did also remark that huge military ships (such as were seen in the promo video some months back) were far too big to enter stations and practically constitute stations themselves. If visiting a station they would moor themselves some distance away and shuttle passengers to and fro.

Hmmm, easy money to be made as a minicab driver?
