...is a PROPER pause function--one that actually pauses the game. Yesterday I was playing online solo in the Morgor system trying to scoop up a couple of gold canisters...which of course turned out to be a honeypot set up by pirates...and just at THE PRECISE MOMENT that they popped in, I get a phone call, grrrrr. 
I made it out somehow with 33% hull left, but a proper pause would have let me get away unscathed.
