One year in - what did YOU achieve and what are YOUR plans for next year?

To get this off first, this is not a DLC speculation or Planet Zoo future speculation. That is just us celebrating us - and the game.

Let me start:

Planet Zoo gave me A LOT this last 12 month. I managed to be part of an awesome community and made a lot of friends along the way, across all countries and all ages (though I get to the point were I believe I'm one of the oldest players with my end thirties :D )

I never thought I'd say that, but I became a builder. My builds are not Iben- or Poisonblade quality and they probably never will, but I overcome the fear of messing up, the fear of showing my builds, I get more self-assured and more patient in general and with myself. And my gosh, do I have fun along the way! Building has become my form of meditation and it's the best medicine against my depressions I ever had - the only downside being lack of sleep, because I concentrate so much I forget everything around me :D

I started 5 new zoos (franchise not counting, I never stayed there more than three days), oversaved one because of stupidity, abondend my first and second one, Königsfreuden is on hold and Unity is probably the first one I will ever finish.

My personal future (that doesn't nesseccerally need to corelate with the actual future of the game) is bright, since I still have a lot of ideas on my hand.
Here are my plans for next year:

  • I want to finally try a new biome, probably desert, but tropical as well
  • I want to build a classical, realistic zoo with backstage areas for the animals - that will be tempreted probably, because that's what I know most of
  • I want to finally play with the animals I never have played with. Which is an embarassing amount. Except one, all animals I never used are from the base game. Can you imagine I never had giraffes in my zoos? Such a staple animal.
  • I want to improve my landscaping, mainly terraforming. My disability comes with slight problems of thinking 3 dimensional, which leads me to struggle with come up with ideas of how real nature terraforming looks like. I want to overcome that.
  • I want to be even more patient with building, taking my time more with each project. Finishing Unity will hopefully help with that, as this will then be my "just chill and play" zoo.
  • I want to work more with rides and such.
  • I'd want to do more outside of the box projects as well.
  • Probably I will not achieve this next year, but maybe someday: Maybe, just maybe and just if my projects are worth it, I want to go into content creating. This time for real and in english, even if my introversion/introvertism or whatever is the right word is slowly killing me painfully just for the thought of it.

Can't wait to hear what you achieved in your own personal PZ year and what your future plans are. Lets get the party started. 🥳

Those are some big plans you have! It is so awesome to hear PZ is helping you with depressions or any struggles our lives can bring. Your are one of the most passionate people around here about Planet Zoo, it is great you will be not leaving any time soon. So best of luck to you with your plans and if you will really happen to have some content in english, I will be more than happy to subscribe! :)

I personally sometimes struggle with the building, luckily I take great inspirations from other people as I have seen so many awesome creations through the year. My hope for next year is just really to get more time to play. Happy Anniversary!

That's so kind of you, thank you very much! <3 I really appreciate. Yes, I am passionate about things I love ( and I secretly think some of the Mods and CMs are considering hiring a bounty hunter by now to get my annyoing mouth shut ;) ).

Happy anniversary to you too and I hope next year will bring you a bunch of time to play Planet Zoo and just relax with it. Really, building isn't everything, there are lots of good ways to enjoy a gaming session.

I went from beeing a sandbox player who never thought I would enjoy playing any other mode, to trying a few senarios, falling in love with the management of building a zoo from scratch. Finally I tried playing Franchise, fell in love with it and never looked back! :p

My goal for next year is to continue working on my huge breeding project, wich I have spent more than six months on so far (the goal is to breed at least 20 males and 20 females with 100% stats of every habitat species in the game)

That is really an ambitious long term project! Have you met your goal with any species yet? And if so, with which?

I had a rocky start to the game. I found the building very difficult and the path and barrier systems frustrating. In part thanks to a lot of instability in my life towards the end of 2019 I hardly played at all.

I loved the Arctic pack animals and the polar bear is still one of my favourites but it was only during the period of almost global lockdown in the spring following the South America pack that I started to seriously play the game again. I started downloading zoos and blueprints and explored what other people were doing and how to use the tools to achieve my goals. And importantly, I had time. Lots of it.

I can now do most things I want to but I struggle with the precision needed to make complex buildings.

My next goal is to try an enclosure with underwater viewing which I still haven't done.

I currently have more ideas than I know what to do with but my Japanese city zoo is perhaps the most advanced in terms of progress. My ultimate hope is to keep this one going and develop it over time. For example at the moment the elephant enclosure is a bit small and basic but there is space for expansion and I would like it to expand in a realistic way.

One thing I really want to do is a real time, four seasons zoo. One of the obstacles to this is a lack of winter deciduous trees (I can just about do autumn with what we have but even that is a bit limited) and the inability to manually control temperatures so that snow stays on the ground once it stops snowing in maps other than tundra. Otherwise I could use a tundra map but as I have said elsewhere, I don't really like the tundra biome texture and would like to use the temperate biome textures.

I also have quite detailed plans for an Australian urban zoo and and open range zoo run by the same body but again, I really want to use temperate biome textures on a grassland map for that and at the moment it isn't possible. But fingers crossed.

And who knows, maybe one day I will actually open a zoo to visitors - still haven't done that.

Well, I think the most general achievement is that this game brought me so many hours of joy and excitement. Especially in March and April, when the whole world went crazy and optimism was hard to find, it was my most favourite distraction.

What I achieved? I found my style of playing, a well-functioning balance between building and managing/watching the zoo. I finished one small zoo which was doing economically great and I'm working on another one - I have become a decent builder and I really like most of my creations by now. (The first few weeks of playing, I went bankrupt, my guests hated me and the zoo looked like a mess, so I HAVE improved in all fields :D)

I have also enjoyed those many threads here on the forums and some amazing youtube videos.

I don't have real plans, but I want to finish my current zoo and then start another project. I don't have that much free time right now, but I want to keep playing whenever possible on the weekends.

As far as achievements go I’ve come a long way in building(although I’m not where I want to be) and in every aspect of the game. I remember during beta struggling quite a bit. Being used to zt2 I thought I would just quickly adapt to this game no problem but it was a bit more challenging than I expected. In comparison to zt2(even modded zt2) I feel like frontier has given me my dream zoo game. The building and exhibit making possibilities are endless and instead of getting bored with this game over time I find myself eager to start the next zoo and ideas I’ve thought of. My fav animal is the African elephant and I love making a nice realistic habitat and watching them walk and interact around the exhibit. For the future of both game and myself I hope to get a few more yrs of support for PZ and look forward to many more great additions from frontier and the community. As for me I hope to just improve in building in game and continue having fun with the game. Thank you frontier.

I don't play games too often, however, I've had great fun playing this game this game with my young children and watching them be creative.

I also make them read about the animals in the zoopedia before they build habitats and then let them go. We have great fun!

I hope you accomplish everything you want to Linda. Just take in all in stride and you'll get there.

You'll do great, trust me! I would definitely be a subscriber! ✔

It sure is! I think it will take me years to finish :) (I have already spent around 2000 hours on this project, wish involves making "baby pen" zoo's, making "breeding" zoo's, one for every species + finding/breeding the best mates for the breeding project - wich is the thing I'm working on right now)

To answer your question, yes I have :) The ones I am done with are Lions, Peafowls, Flamingos, Cheetas, Bongos and Japanese Makaks (I went a bit overboard with the Makaks, as I have 120 perfect babys of those!)

PZ (among other games) has been one of the few things keeping me sane and getting me through hard times for the past several years. I had the (mis)fortune of being able to play a lot of PZ in the past year all due to being out of work for the majority of the year, switching careers and writing my thesis. COVID-19 pandemic has worsened my situation, like it has for a lot of people around the world. Playing video games is a big hobby of mine and PZ is one of my all time favorite games.

My general goal in PZ is just trying to finish projects, whatever they might be. I have successfully followed through and already finished 2 zoos. I am focusing on smaller projects because it's the only way to finish anything and honestly, building big kind of scares me (in a weird and funny way!)

Never had giraffes either! Ahahaha

Oh wow. This is an interesting thread. I always take in hand to create habitats for animals I never had before but because if my low grade hardware (until this week) I was not able to rise quantities. Finally I got my upgrade I was saving for because of PZ just in time for PZ birthday. <3

I am planning to build bear habitats and I would like to finish my rhino explorers path. And of couse I would like to have lions soon.
But first of all:
  • I would like to build a nice turtle house
  • I would like to build a huge facility building
  • I would like to have 2 bear species

Yeah. That is all for now :3
