I'm looking for personal weapons for a Navy progression I just picked up and looking at the galaxy map with every trade out highlighted it only spans out to 4 systems, do I just simply need to jump to another system to be able to see what's being traded farther out?

The lines you see are the route your ship would be taking if you would plot a course to a system further away. These lines can change when you select Economical or Fastest route in the map.
You could buy the trade data of other systems if you have the option to do so to look for a system where it is sold... or travel there yourself...

And if you are lazy, search for Dictatorship systems in the galaxy map. They almost always sell personal weapons
Yeah, I understand those course plotting lines that I would take if I would plot a course. I'm just talking about the colored moving arched lines that show specific items going back and forth.

OK just buying trade data fixes my issue...I hope I can either find who's selling or that dictatorship that I saw a while back
You only see trade routes for systems you have trade data for.
You get trade data by visiting the system (I think you have to dock with a station, but am not certain) or by buying it on the Galaxy Map (again, you may have to be docked with a station to buy the data, not checked).
You can only buy trade data for nearby systems - I think it's 20 Ly from your current location.
