Only Drones

Looking at Thargoid behavior so far I think what we encountered so far are nothing but drones. The small ones on the Thargoid sites are minding their business as long as we don't provoke them. They repair and do whatever they do. I think same goes for the ships we saw so far. The are scavenging, collecting data and other stuff, including escape pods. They are minding their business until provoked or disturbed in some way.

Since Thargoids are insectoid I think the ones we saw so far are nothing but workers, like in an ant colony. We don't know why they came to us now, but there are multiple things I could think of.

- They might still be recovering from the virus we gave them back then and gathering stuff on autopilot to rebuild.
- The less hostile race is at war with the hostile one and driven into our direction (Wagar's book points into this direction). Drones first for scavenging and rebuilding.
- There is nothing left of them but mindless, scavening drones... (Nah, I don't think so...)
- They are scouting, looking for a weakness (I don't think so as well because they could just squish us anytime)
- Their swarm is reaping the galaxy for resources and what we see now is just the beginning of the plague of locusts...
- looking at the probes and artifacts and things we can do with them at the site implicates that they are somehow trying to contact other races. But perhaps these devices are just remains from a civilization long gone and the Thargoids we encounter are really just mindless remnants scavenging on because nobody can tell them otherwise.

Also I still believe Thargoids in general might be the offspring of the Guardians' slave race. Thargoids seem to be made for conflict, endurance in space, survival in general. Also they are all female (those we met, again, perhaps this is because their drones are female). So far they have all the traits of a bioengineered race gone wild after their creators vanished (or have been vanished...). Also explains them go aggro on Guardian tech. I can also imagine the Guardians once kept the Thargoids at bay, preventing them from spreading all over the galaxy or something (thus Guardians). Also, we could be the remnants of their slave race... screw evolution! :D

Well, if what we encounter now are worker drones, I wonder what their warriors look like... Let's hope there are none.

(Thanks to Frontier, by the way, for not just creating an enemy to have war with. I love that the whole Thargoid thing is still so controversial even after we have close contact now)

I just read that the part where the cure for the mycoid virus was delivered to the Thargoids never happened. That means that the war has been ended by us defeating them, not by some kind of treaty. It also means the Thargoids we meet are different ones or whatever is left of them. Perhaps they managed to recover or/and it changed them somehow? I bet they are immune by now. :D

I don't think it was an end of war, just a temporany retrat.

If your enemy has a devastating weapon you cannot counter, you don't stand there to get immolated.

This could also be the reason of their behaviour change.
In the past Elite games it was pretty simple, Thargoids intrediction was always a guaranteed attack, 99,9999% of the times it was no match for them.

After the Virus was used things changed heavily for them, from a 99,9999% chance to win it suddenly became a terrible threat and they disappeared.

Personal opinion:
They might still be recovering from the virus we gave them back then and gathering stuff on autopilot to rebuild.

Nope, the afflicted ships were left behind, as far i know they never went to scan them or repair them, this could lead to a spread of the infection.
Only the drones that were already in the ship remain trying to repair the vessels and going on with their usual tasks.

The less hostile race is at war with the hostile one and driven into our direction
Agree, they seem to retrat and pass trough the space where Humans are

There is nothing left of them but mindless, scavening drones...
Again, don't think so, if they were just drones they would not change their behavior, what they did.

First it was all attacks
Then they went scanning gathering informations
Now they are gathering sampels and have different behaviours.

They are scouting, looking for a weakness
They are scouting, they are scanning, they are abducting.
But they don't need to find weaknesses, at this state of the game they can obliterate pretty much everything.

Their swarm is reaping the galaxy for resources and what we see now is just the beginning of the plague of locusts
Their are at war with eachother, they need resources to win, we are just in the way, until the Virus we were just ants in the way, but things changed, we are a hardly predictable variable in their war.

looking at the probes and artifacts and things we can do with them at the site implicates that they are somehow trying to contact other races
I think the probes are not there just for us but for military intelligence usage.
Are my enemys intrested in this sector / world (mostly ammonia)
Are they gathering materials, building a base or a new home.
Do they pass here.
Drones could be used this way

Thargoids in general might be the offspring of the Guardians' slave race
I think the guardians met the thargoids and were just not able to defend themself.

From what i readed Thargoids are Hive based, since they are all females it could lead to think that they are smiliar to ants, bees or wasps.
They could have different casts like warriors, farmers, builders, guardians, gatherers and explorers all ruled by a Queen/king and if they got more colonies then also by an Empress/Emperor
These we found around may be the explorers and not the warriors.

Exactly my thoughts concerning the hive. The ships we encounter now behave like worker drones (as stated in my first post), but if this is indeed a hive population there will be warriors and maybe other kinds of Thargoids. And yeah, maybe also some kind of queen. We'll see. :D

From what ive seen i believe we re looking at scientific scouting parties. When those frigates and heavy cruisers turn up were fu ahem....done for

I think a lot if this makes sense. Obviously the specifics are highly speculative but I think the overall premise is sound.
