[OOC] question on state of RP

Hello fellow commanders

i'm interested on RPing in Elite though im not sure in what state it is? for it so if any of you more experienced ED's RPers could tell me in what kind of state is the ebb and flow of elites RP and where and how it mostly takes place. as a bit of a warning i have RPed before to some extent in EVE online both in the Intergalatic summit and various channels ingame so any explanation how different the RP is from that would be appreciated since i get a feeling there's some cross over between EVE's and ED's community.

I would like to know about that as well.
Yet have to encounter RP in Elite Dangerous, but to be fair, I only started out yesterday.
It seems to me that this game has some fairly advanced potential for being a good RP platform, especially once the Planetwalk/Stationwalk/Shipwalk features are being released.
Although I understand that we might have to wait quite some time for this.

I was really hoping this would be answered. I would like to RP as well, but I can't really get a feel for a character when I know next to nothing about the universe. I don't really want to buy the books so I've been looking for online resources, but I haven't found much.

To be honest I haven't seen much RP in game and not even that much player interaction. it would help if FD released more of the lore. As it is we're kind of grasping at straws with what little we see in GalNet posts and a few dev comments. Other than that most of the lore for the previous games is of limited use as we aren't sure how much is still canon.

Not sure what the state of role-play is in the open game world, but we have a private group which just has people willing to role-play in it.
We have about 50 players at the moment and with the new wings it should be easy to communicate and do stuff in game.

It would probably help more if there were proper servers, rather than dodgy p2p networking.. Even basic interaction can be terribly hit and miss.

I have enough friends online that I can usually get into a wing of one or two people whenever I log in. Roleplaying kind of comes naturally from that just dealing with whatever comes by. The downside of that is I tend to be preoccupied and don't think about other CMDRs I come across. I should really go solo (er... not the mode, just play by myself) and send some shoutouts in the systems I come across CMDRs in again.

I have been flying around in various systems - warning people about pirates mostly or asking about pirate activities. Most of the replies I've received back was definitely roleplay related (such as in-character such as useful actual useful information.)

Hi Guys

Just a quick post to say that we have created an Elite & Dangerous RP hub for all players interested in RPing in Elite. We felt there was no singular place for us and it made sense to have somewhere we could collaborate and channel our efforts as a community.

The Deep Space Stories group is part of the new hub.
