Oooooooh, what a night!!!!!!

So, the wife has gone out with her friends and I finally get the kids to bed, bliss a couple of free hours to explore Elite Dangerous Gamma 1.1

So start of in my sidewinder hauling 4 tonnes of scrap (seems appropriate) to Crampton port in Chembuka (think that's the right spelling) system. Intradicted a couple of times by NPC Eagles which were easily dealt with. Third time I get interdicted it is an ASP, initial response is to make like a tree and leave when I was helpfully informed that my opponents shields were already down. Tried my luck, little bit of hit and run, ducking and diving and though and behold I have my third kill of the night.
Another NPC kill but it was highly enjoyable and an excellent learning experience for combat skills against bigger gunned ships.

Anyway, by this time I have lit my cigar and just waxing my WW1 fighter pilot moustache as I dock in Crampton. Sell my scrap and just about to head of for another trading mission when some large cargo vessel upsets the authorities and very generously donates a load of coffee and wine cargo just outside the station.

Head out 4 times, get to use my fuel scoop for the first time and out smart the Feds with silent running making atidy profit of stolen cargo around 6000 credits. So a lot of new experiences and a thorough ablely enjoyable night. I was my 14 old year spotty teenager 28 years ago all over again. :)

This is probably small beer to some of you more experienced guys but I still had a smile on my face after two child's tantrums, one smelly nappy change and 2and a half hour drive to a meeting for work. Cheers Frontier, I am living the dream here.

Nice post.

I usually get an hour or so after everything in my household has died down, but what a great hour it is :)

Nice - great fun isn't it? I started off in the same place (twice now), trying to make my way down to Imperial space (don't really know why, just picked a goal for myself while waiting for permanence!).

Only made it as far as Akaibio(?) (about 3 hops down) as I got distracted trying to turn one of the stations friendly :) After making it friendly, I wanted to see if you can influence the influence of the different factions within the system - no results yet but I'm expecting to need a lot of missions to even begin to make any difference. It is nice to have green ships and stations in the scanner though :)

@Paddy McGinty's Goat: *rise a glass* Cheers mate! Identical situation here, wife and two kids. Couple hours at the Machine, but what a time!
I kid you not, when I say I started uninstalling most of the other games...

We'll see as soon as we can land on planets and leave the boat! :D

Great OP! This is exactly how I have felt in the E: D universe when trying new things and having new but reminiscent experiences...
.
Nice to see another positive post about the game and your experience in it :)

Sounds Great I'm in the sam eposition and my daily gaming is usually restricted to a couple of hours after 11pm. MAny lomg term games played and this is just a new one to add to the list. In the Half hour that i managed to grab last night i managed to jump to the location of my freagle. Lets see where that can take me tonight.

Had my first proper play yesterday and not just bumbling around figuring out the controls. (Well, there was a little bit of that.) Thought I’d take my ‘Federal Trader’ Cobra Mk III out for a spin.

Did some haulage missions, added a cheap gimballed weapon, did a bit of trading, got interdicted (blew him to bits), got interdicted (ran away after a scrap). Did a little opportunistic exploring and remembered to sell the data. My word, it’s a costly business fuelling and repairing Cobras.

I'm even getting to grips with exiting the Torus Jump Drive without having to perform the U-turn of shame back to my target.

Having great fun.

The only fly in the ointment was a server disconnect that confused one of the haulage missions. I delivered the goods and was paid but the job didn't clear and I had to abort it manually - not sure if I got fined for it, though.

Can relate so much. My latest blog entry goes along the same lines. Just one daughter over here , but she sure knows how to throw a tantrum and some time amongst the ever silent stars is the right thing to relax when all girls are in bed (wife, daughter, cat)!

They nailed the dog fighting, combat and interdictions for solo-play. Not yet the social MMO aspect of playing in groups and doing missions together due to a lack of tools.

I had a good one last night due to the new 40 sec frameshift cooldown. I'm driving a hauler right now and of course to max the cargo space I have no shields and no weapons (to max range) as most hauler pilots don't methinks. So there I am with 22 tons of gold making a tasty run and get interdicted. Now most often I can avoid the interdict but this time I couldn't find the escape vector to save my life (almost literally!).This guy comes breezing in and starts shooting and I'm bobbing and weaving with one eye on the FD as he whittles down my hull. "Thrusters offline" crap, there goes another 20% of hull. "Thrusters online" just as he comes in again but this time I can spiral out. It was one of the longest 40 second periods of my life as each time he comes in I lose a little more and just as my hull goes down to 15% my FD comes back on line but... Factor 12 disruptive mass! Oh well, I think it was a good run. But still I kept bobbing and weaving and a sudden stop by me led him to overshoot. Come on, come on, drive spooling oh so slowly. 4% hull left and.... jump! I get to the station and a lousy landing costs me 2% more. 2% hull left, me shaking and staring at a 1400cr repair bill but a 20,000 profit in cargo. I had never given much store to the Hauler before but now I love the sturdy little burger. So much so that when I have enough to trade up I'm going to earn that little bit more so I can keep it stored... full of memories.

This made me really laugh. I think that would be a great addition to the merch store. A (fake, otherwise it would irresponsible) Elite-branded cigar that you can buy and save until you get the ultimate kill, or reach Elite rank!

Yeah i dare not turn Elite on while my 7 yo is awake. He is dying to fly the real ship not the tutorial one.....

Great post... this is an example of an Elite game at it's best. I'm stuck several thousand km's away from my computer for the next few weeks and haven't played since beta 3.05, so thanks for letting me enjoy it vicariously through your story. Have some rep for your efforts. :)
