OOOOoooooo now it gets.....interesting

Just watched Buurs video with the spoilers...

This is certainly going to make life interesting- I wonder how it is balanced, and if FD will cave to players?

I wonder how long each Malestrom takes to move, and where?
I reckon
they'll take a week or two.

They're not going to be burning too much of the bubble, but I'm certain they're intent on a few systems going down at least because it's a waste of development time if not ;)

I think that there is going to be quite a lot of turmoil to markets, in and around the areas.

Its also going to be interesting if Stargoids can wreck Power capitals, engineering bases and anything rare related, or that some places are exempt....

Well, this certainly explains why - importance to individual BGS groups aside - the Stargoids aren't aimed at anything critical in the first instance.

Checking the journal output for the depopulated systems, the faction list is (not unexpectedly) emptied. I wonder if the original factions come back if the system is repopulated, and if so, in what state?

Brazilian League of Pilots just lost a few systems today cause the systems near the Maelstrom were theirs. lol
Including their home system, looking at the map. I guess we'll see how the recapture attempt works out for them fairly soon.

It's somewhat to be expected, of course, that with the big factions controlling so much of the bubble, they're going to lose something to this sort of thing.

Frontier has yet to update PP with the ability to re-calculate control systems income after population changes. There's hundreds of missing CC from Odyssey population increases. So I doubt that a system turning into 0 population will change the base income of the control system.

I wonder what happens if it invades a control system though. The Thargoids could help the powers so much by invading the garbage loss-making systems

I'm more interested in what happens in PP if they gobble up Capitals- for inbound powers that would be catastrophic out the gate in all Thargoid alert states, and crippling for both in and outbound when Goids take over.

Other than if one entered maelstrom mode right next to a capital I expect the threat would be enough to switch that Power into AX mode for a week to fend them off - but even having one close enough to repeatedly threaten the capital would take up a lot of power!

If they all start on the fringes of course it'll be a while before we see much of that.

Hitting a HQ is unfair because... what will even happen if it gets reduced to 0 population/no stations? So we'll have to see if they can even target control systems first.

That said, if they start out in the edges and build contiguous territory instead of randomly going for a system 100 ly from the nearest Maelstrom, it should have sufficient advance warning before reaching dangerous PP areas.

Interesting times indeed :D

Rubbernuke, can you imagine this sort of mechanism perhaps being applied to Powerplay as a whole? 😲
To be honest this is what the BGS should have been a long time ago back in 1.X days, because this (i.e. 4.X) BGS is the BGS IMO showing its absolute full potential. Wars are no longer local but bubble wide now, and the BGS organically building front lines / opportunity.

Early on in 1.X days you had a simplistic BGS and a flashy but shallow Powerplay, as time has gone on we are seeing them slowly merge and I'm almost 100% certain the new Powerplay will be like what U14 has done- i.e. going hyper local and using BGS (and all connected mechanics).

The problem is for the victim Power is that swap in focus will most likely be met with massive undermining from rivals- mainly as its the possible contagion from an ignored incursion (since I assume you can't fine tune a Goid maelstrom to drop systems).
