I just figured it'd be a better system if there were two saves. While Solo and Group play could use the same save data, perhaps Open play could use a different one? It'd give a purpose to having to stick in Open play when the going gets tough and it'd add a new dynamic to the game.

Probably see you in the megathread!

So how do you resolve the data transfer between two saves? If I start in system X in Open, and move to system Y, how does Solo know this? Solo will start with me back in system X. Or, if I earn 1M Crs in Solo, and next time I'm in Open I'm 1M CRs short.

Yeah, you start again - two separate saves.

Maybe when they start it they could copy the saves, so you don't start from scratch, just from where you are now - so you start with the same save data in each...but from the day it starts, what you do in open is independent of what you do in Solo/Group.

Kinda like GTA 5. Story mode and Online are two separate games/saves.

How do you sync up the exploration data?
The only way to do it would be to run two server farms along with all the expense that entails.
Well, actually I was thinking that the Solo and Open data is still shared as it is now. You still interact with the same galaxy, same trade...but, your ship, your cargo, your rank progression is unique. It just means you can't escape pirates or other players by switching to solo. Also gives greater purpose to teaming up with others and such.
