Open can be cool

So for a change of pace, I thought I would drop in at Eravate in open and see what was going on. So glad I did. Some hilarious docking/undocking antics with funny messages. :D

Dropped into the Hazres and was surprised to see a commander in a Cobra (novice I think) doing pretty good by all accounts, so sent a wing request which he accepted. I'm flying a shield tanked Chieftan so we flew around, me dropping target shields and wingman finish the job. We even did some good old fashioned drag and bag.

I didn't realise that kill bounties are not split anymore, both players get the full payout! So my questions is this. Why don't seasoned players, help new guys make money, while having some fun and banter?

So thanks to JohnyJOliver o7 commander.

Later, same hazres, teamed up with a Vulture pilot. Great to see a mostly harmless commander using railguns and cannons. So to Commando Command o7

Neither commander had a mic,, so had to type and fight (which ain't easy!)

Only downside, instance changes took ages, while the servers tried to do their thing. Little wonder Distant Worlds caused a melt down.

Fly safe.

As a PS4 plebian open is normally cool and the gang, i guess it may be different in the big pond though. You may meet a nutter, but dont let it stop you venturing out, thats my advice for what its worth.

Open is the better option; if you can afford it and you like the company of other players.

99% of my time has be enjoyable and worth the risk. 95% of the humans, I have met there, have been very friendly and i wont let the 1 to 5% deter me from being there.

Frankly, even while in Groups and hitting it off hard, Open was rarely of any benefit. 99% of all times we went in alone since it didn't make any sense nor any benefit to even Wing up. We were all in Open but there was no point.

Random strangers? Next to useless and the Game Options are extremely limited anyway to top it all off. "Neutral mutual ignoring" often being the standard outcome, even the occasional "o7" got very rare in recent times.
Anything else? GvP, the usual ED standard meal.

Unless you're upto something very specific which requires the presence of other Players - there's almost no point in Open Play anymore. Its magic is long gone.

PS.
The last time I visited Eravate in Open and offered my help to new CMDRs, noone even dared to respond to the offer, let alone undock.
After no less than 5 Minutes and me asking why noone was interested, I received only a single response : Because noone wants to get shot.

0% Harmless CMDRs still in Sidewinders, Eagles and Haulers. And they already understood what Open was all about, what it had decayed to. The local Bounty Boards made it clear those guys had good reasons not to trust anyone.
I remember I just flew home that day. Quite depressing.

Open can be cool, except when I want to visit jameson without being interdicted by a murdo hobo. Then solo is pretty cool.

I was interdicted near Jameson the other day by what I can only assume was some kind of griefer/murder hobo (I had no cargo). Submitted, deployed and swung round with FA-OFF in my engineered combat Annie, red engines snorting like some kind of demonic bull (I was really peeved, I just wanted to dock and get on with my business). We circled each other for a moment and then the joker backed off sheepishly with the message “No PVP”. I should have just popped the blighter for the inconvenience. :D Made me laugh though.

+1

I mostly play Open (95%). I rarely run into fellow Cmdr's, but I'm always hopeful...

No. It's very intentional and for good reason. They want to make cooperation attractive, instead of people feeling punished for doing things together. Strange as that idea might sound to some people.

I see it from this angle as well. Also considering the relative ease of moneymaking just by existing sometimes, it makes little sense to cap down one of the incentivizers for what should be a fun multiplayer activity.

Plus it's Eliteconomy; it's not like if 3 doods get 7 mil apiece for the 7mil-valued mission the galactic banks will collapse; and they could have gotten that and more anyway doing something more boring by themselves, but chose to hang out with their friends and got to make some scratch too.

I enjoy open, there are def things to do and not do. Power play areas are pvp areas in open. Also engineer areas. So if your pvper there you go, if you don't like pvp stay out of those areas in open. Founders World often has trolls as well. I was once accused of being of, "imperial scum" then rammed by a fed vet. He called me a "slaver" ect ect. The reason I had a power play tag on my ship at the time which was type 10. Little did he know I was really allied with federation, the encounter was pretty comical.

Can't help myself but I find this sort of game balancing totally gaga and respectless to any decent game design concepts. Hell, they even can't properly balance risk reward in PvE missions, so what do I expect...

In case you don't know what I'm talking about: wing massacre missions pay about twice as much but have no increased difficulty when doing in Solo. Another one are Financial Data Acquisition missions in high security systems. Way more difficult than planetary scan missions but only pay about the half. As of the latter, I really would like to see a video from one of those apex PvP players who always claim PvP is the true thing and PvE is easy mode. There you have the chance to show me how good you really are. :D

I wanted a more believable lots-of-things in Elite, but we got what we got. Might as well let it be fun if it can't be made more sensible. Sensible AND fun would be great but IDW hold my breath on that one.

I've played around 200h so far, 99% open. My home system is in the outskirts of the bouble, so I hardly ever meet someone, unless doing business somewhere else. But when I do, my heart beats faster :D For me, it's a part of the game. I like the risk, that feeling, when I'm getting back from some exploration mission and I have to be EXTREMELY careful, full shields, watch the radar if someone is approaching. coming, be ready to jump into supercruise.

The only negative experience I had was in Farseer Inc. The landing pad was bugged (there was an NPC on my landing pad), I couldn't land, didn't know what to do, and while I was confused, I was taken down by some infamous wizard... I will keep trying landing there in Open, but in case I see that I'm ambushed every time, I guess I will play solo just for the landing/take off.
