Open Composite - On foot weapon glitches.

Hey guys,

I use Open Composite for Elite and Virtual Desktop set to VDXR. It runs fantastic.
However i have a weird issue when i go on foot.

The 2D on Foot screen is fine. The FPS is fine and the camera movement is smooth.
However i get glitches with the weapon models when i turn. They kinda glitch back and forth and are not smooth.
It seems functionally fine like the crosshair works and bullets seem to land when its pointing. But the actual gun model flickers glitches about.

If i run it in SteamVR mode this does not happen and its fine. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm also using Open Composite with Virtual Desktop set to VDXR and have no problems as you describe.

Maybe try switching SSW (ASW outside of VD) on/off? I don't use VD very often for Elite, but if I use ASW via cable, I get a heat haze effect on the HUD so might be worth a try?

I have this issue whether I use open composite or stean VR. The gentic sampler is the worst - jumps around and glitches all over, especially when running.

Thanks for the suggestion. But i cant stand ASW so its always off. So its not that.

Hallo,

I only have it when I "don't" use Turbo mode.

Usually it's not my style to necro threads, but praise Braben, this one has possibly saved my sanity. I have had the same issues since day one of trying to get OC to work, but somehow I missed this thread until now. As a result I've shelved OC over and over and stuck with SteamVR.

So first: Thank you. I mean it. I have tried almost every setting, but always shied away from turbo mode.

Second: I have questions. I have perused the documentation of OpenXR Toolkit, and it states that it disables MR. Now, I really have to find the limits of my system with OC, but I assume my system isn't strong enough to sustain 90 fps unless I seriously nerf the resolution. I still have to try it out, but did I understand it correctly that forcing and locking MR still enables it even though the UI menu says in big red letters "Turbo mode disables reprojection"? My framerate shows 45 fps, so I assume this is correct?

So the second question would be: Anyone found a solution / driver / runtime combination / whatever that solves the issue without MR, or am I stuck with either turbo mode with no MR (which I think sucks, fluctuation in frame rate is bad in VR, mkay :D ), or turbo mode with always-on-MR?

(I have to add I haven't played yet, can't at the moment, just playing around with the settings with the headset turned on lying next to me).

Thanks!

Edit to say: I'm on WMR with a G2, just for completeness.

Sorry, I can't contribute anything to this.
I'm playing with a Q3 @ 72hz via VD on a 4090 without MR.
I still have 30-40% GPU headroom on planetary surfaces, even at ultra settings.
It might be different in settlements, but 99.9% of the time I'm in the far reaches of the galaxy.
I only experience occasional stuttering now and then, but I also have that in 2D,
as I saw when I returned to the bubble to buy and upgrade the Mandalay.

the 90 Hz of the G2 naturally put more strain on the system, with me having a weaker GPU, so that's not helping. The 60 Hz mode of the G2 is completely useless of course, that's instant migrane.

I have not yet been able to fully test it, but I had a bit of a faff around. First of all, yes, turbo mode and setting MR to on indeed works and locks the game to always-on MR. Artefacts seem worse than with SteamVR though... not really sure yet.

Turning off MR is a no-go. Sitting in a Coriolis, I get like 65 fps and my GPU sounds like a jet engine. Nope, especially not now in the summer.

Also, movement with MR off on anything other than 90 / 45 / 30 fps is jittery as hell. I guess I could keep dropping the render resolution through opencomposite.ini, but what's the point - it's supposed to be better running OC than SteamVR, after all.

Sooo... not sure. With my system, I am klind of reliant on MR for the busy places unless I drop the resolution to "suck". I will do some more testing with locked MR, and then have to make a decision based on how often I leave the ship. Maybe leave turbo and MR locking off as a default and turn it on when I plan to go on foot - sucks that you have to restart the VR session each time though.
