Open Play: An epiphany

Hi All
I rarely post, but I had a couple of things on my mind, so I was originally going to combine the subjects in a single post, but I’m pleased I didn’t as part of my original question seems to have turned into a “thing” in itself!
Anyway, the reason for being on here again is that ...Since launch, I’ve pretty much been a Solo player.
I think I may have even been a “care bear” apparently in some circles.
Anyway, there were a number of reasons I gravitated towards solo play right from the beginning of playing since launch, but that is just me.
The reason for this post now is to say how much I’ve enjoyed playing in open recently.
For me, it certainly adds a bit of the “Dangerous” element to to the game and it has subsequently given me a new exciting element to the game.
I have probably been put off previously by tales on this forum by stories about the minute you log in, you are vapourised by some mythical engineered weapons.
What I was missing though within my little comfort zone is that adding the human element to the game, does add to the excitement.
It may not be for everyone, but I do now recommend it!
I’ve yet to be “ganked”, but I’ve had a few “unscrupulous” commanders try “their thing” and it made the gaming experience a lot better for it.
l would recommend always having rebuy though and know how to avoid interdiction!
Just wanted to say this as I have a feel most are now leaning towards solo.
I’ve not done a CG though, but I’ve been at Sothis where there were plenty of Commanders.

Yep, bounty farming and CZ's are much more fun in a wing.

If you're looking to join a wing some time, look me up.

Glad you're having fun.

I don't venture into Open not because of the people, but because the network performance is intolerable to me. I can't stand seeing ships skipping across space, or coming to a very abrupt halt in normal-space only to lunge ahead full throttle again. I suspect it's largely because when I'm here to play, my fellow players are mostly Aussies on Can-and-String-Net, Southern Appalachians on Smoke-Signal-Net, and a small handful of night-owls in my own time zone. Can't really do anything about that, so it is what it is.

Same here. Aside from the rubber banding, the instance transitions lag so badly in Open for me (Can-and-String-Net customer here). I don't want to sit gazing at the blue tunnel forever on every drop-down.

I like to bounce between solo and open. Lately, I have been playing in open because I find it interesting to see how many humans are active in my neck of the woods. Like you OP, I expected to see hordes of players moving in wolfpacks ganking carebears wherever I went, but that is hardly the case. While you do find a lot of players at the expected hot spots like CGs, etc., I rarely encounter another human as I go about my business in the more mundane areas of the game. That gives you an idea of just how big our game galaxy is.

While I was suspicious of it at first, I have to say that I really have come to enjoy the ability to play solo or open depending on my mood.
