Open Play Colonization

There're a lot of good reasons for solo play, but is colonization one of them? No one is camping trade routes like in a CG. Everyone isn't using the same stations so they're not swamped. Even the Trailblazer ships have been empty of people in open in my experience.

Believe it or not, colonization can be a little boring. Running into other commanders has been a nice bit of variety. Sometimes you chat back and forth over autodock, sometimes it's just a wave. I have gotten one "What the hell are you doing in my system?" which was also a fun change of pace.

It is very rare to meet cmdrs when hauling to your system. Same for many many activities. So what is the point in using Open when hauling? And switching back to solo for other stuff? It is not like you earn points for using a certain mode

Just play however you like whatever you do

Yes, playing colonisation in solo is good for me. Chill, no stress, no constantly watching out for anyone that would do me ill. I am flying a trading ship, not a combat one, trading peacefully (as much as it can be) is my goal. Being some other CMDR's content is not.

All the reasons that people play solo apply to colonisation. You can fly in a player group that makes sense but hauling isn't fun so flying in open isn't worth the risk. You don't even need to be in the same instance to sit and talk on voice chat while mindlessly flying cargo. It's not about the credits you're risking it's the time taken with yet another hauling trip sometimes with goods that are out of stock on your closest markets.

I've been colonising in my player group. I switched to open today while helping out here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/a-request-for-help.637477/ and it was nice to see a few other CMDRs until I was attacked as I came in to land. Then I realised NPCs were doing the attacking and that happens in all modes

I was half expecting some opportunists to cause problems and would have returned to my player group if that had happened - at least in AX you stand a chance of escaping. In a Type-9 it would be horribly one sided even if shielded to the gills

I have also been attacked by NPC pirates wanting my cargo when coming in to dock. Even in a low sec system, security is all over them before you can say "brown pants".

so flying in open isn't worth the risk.
What risk, ever since the trailblazers CG I have been hauling in open mainly for other CMDR's and I have o7 a few others that I have seen en route but the only minor aggravation I have had has been from NPC's.

I suppose anyone who might have a bone to pick with having a system "stolen" from them could camp areas to make deliveries difficult or impossible.

If a particularly large project like an Orbis, the constant attacks could very well cause the claim to forfeit due to not supplying in time; this achieving their goal.
Extremely unlikely, but possible.
They wouldn't suffer any consequences by doing so given the anarchy state; but 4 weeks of such harassment would be a commitment on its own.

I normally play Open, but when I'm stuck flying a hunk of junk like the T9, without shields, my patience is already razor thin.

I only see another commander about every 3rd day that I play, space is empty enough as it is. There's no reason you can't switch to solo if other players are bothering you, but I've been enjoying bumping into people in open and I think others should give it a try.
