Open Play Exploring?

Maybe. Has anyone reached Elite in exploration entirely in open since release? If not, there's still a chance you could win 1000 GBP (stupid American keyboard doesn't have a pound key) if you stay in open the whole time.

Tequila achieved explorer Elite a week or two ago (100,000,000 Cr in exploration data sales).

I exclusively play in open play because there is still a chance of triple Elite. Once the triple Elite has gone, then I'll consider solo or private groups.

I have played 100% open for the last 6 weeks (previous to that swapped modes as I fancied), mainly because so much purile nonsense is written on the fora about players 'hiding' in 'easy mode'.
In that time, trading with Asp/T7/python and exploring with Adder, I have seen 1 CMDR.

For most players there is absolutely no difference in the modes. My open play is just at the expense of a performance hit. Really don't know why I bother.

Play in open, had a random encounter with another cmder as I was visiting the stars of the Orion constellation had a chat, visited a few systems together and then made our separate way it was great!

That's great Patau. Do you have a list of which stars you visited in Orion? I ask because it's my favourite constellation and I really enjoy this time of year when it moves across the southern skies (in England). I've been minded to visit (in Elite!), but my source for the stars on Wikipedia has an extraordinary long list of stellar bodies, not all I expect are visible to my naked eye in the skies from home. I'd be interested to know which you visited. What ED is teaching me is how relatively close those stars are, compared to say the bulk of the galatic disk or the other galaxies.

Can I also politely ask other posters to keep to the explorer aspects of my OP and not into a "gaming industry view of open/solo games", for which I believe one or two other threads might exist.

I only play in open - I trade, explore, mine, bounty hunt, whatever.

I wish high-res screenies were available in open (I assume there's some implementation detail behind why they did that....?) but otherwise, it's fine. I don't run into CMDRs much. Annoying NPCs (even way away from human-space) but that's just the game mechanics.

Count me as another cmdr who explores in open. Haven't met anyone else yet, I was actually kinda disappointed nobody else was around when I hit Sgr A* as I was hoping someone would be there to make me a commemorative screenshot with my nice colourful Asp ... give us 3P camera drones please Frontier :(

I have my answer, then. TBH, the main reason why I still play open exclusively is the same - that small but finite possibility that I might be the first to get triple Elite. Even after, I'll still probably play open exclusively because I'm a pompous (donkey) who secretly considers people who play in solo wimps, although certain private groups like Mobius might become attractive to me. It would depend on how big a problem griefing becomes for me - my general strategy for dealing with griefing in ED is the same as in real life: just don't go there anymore.

If you at all care about the data you collect, it would be smart to switch to solo when you get back to the inhabited world :) Or, some psycho might relieve you from all you have been working for :)

That's part of the excitement of running the barricade of interdictions. :)
