Open Play, its changing me.

Ive never played solo, not once. But with the latest patches improving instancing n such ive encountered more and more players...ahh finally right? Not exactly.
In almost every instance where I encountered a player, I was either interdicted repeatedly (i had no bounty or cargo btw) and attacked or several players attack n declare "leave we own this space"? Really?!...Lol... "Lol" is a direct quote of what I responded over comms, Ive been with ED since Alpha..I know my way around, they never did more than give me a minor repair bill for the interdiction...but I cant stop eyeballing the Solo mode button as of late...and I really, really dont want to.

I've only been interdicted by players twice. One was someone who'd got annoyed with me at the nav point for no obvious reason (got away from him then and from the interdiction), the other just said "Hello" and flew off. Since the unpredictable threat from NPCs is negligable even the players I don't really like make it a little more interesting, but not even by that much unfortunately.

What system are you in?

I ask because I made a beeline for Empire space as soon as I logged in on launch. I've been playing pretty heavily since then exclusively in open, and in that time...

I've been trading very heavily. Often with no shields, chaff, point defense or weapons.
I have been interdicted by a player once. Exactly once. I happened to have no cargo on me.
I have been griefed exactly zero times. not at nav points, not in conflict zones, not in stations, not in asteroid belts.
I've had a fair few very friendly conversations with players, though I've found that flying in an asp of a clipper tends to make people nervy

Now, I'm willing to admit that it's possible that my experiences are unusual. But I don't know that they are. I think the grief and danger of open play is vastly over-stated, and the accounts distorted by the activity that takes place in a handful of systems near the starter zones and Sol.

I've recently started playing open and have been surprised at the lack of interdiction's. In all I guess I've met about 30 other players so far around Sol and haven't been attacked once.

I suppose it depends where you are.

Yes, this was exactly my experience until recently...

You might want to try a PvE group, then. Ours have more than 3100 commanders. Link in my sig.

I will def look into this, thnx

I've seen perhaps twenty players on my travels this morning. I said hello to them. All but two replied similarly back.

I suggest that you may be hanging around the public toilets, wondering why wierdo's keep coming up to you? If it sucks that badly where you are, just move on. I'm sure FD didn't create 1,000,000,000,000 trillion mcbillion systems for us, just so we can all grief each other in two.

Anyway. Enjoy Solo. Those NPC's sure are challenging.

Don't see the issue. Either cope with human interaction or go play Solo. Simple as.

If you don't ask a specific question, all you will get as replies is "I've been interdicted way less than you" posts, implying it's your fault (it's always the victim's fault, right?).

Otherwise, yeah, there are no grouping tools and the chat system is cumbersome, so both YOU and the PVP'ers are playing a solo game in a free-for-all PVP environment. They're trying to organize themselves as best they can, but "we own this space" is rather silly because you can just go solo and "ruin" the only resource their space has (the markets), anyway.

Try empire space...spice it up :)

On the one hand the "leave we own this space" crowd are hilarious and on the other hand... yeah, don't really want to be playing any game with these *(insert any term of abuse you like here). It'll be 10 times worse once Wings come in to play I'm sure. Been off in Solo since I had my experience of those 'types', and haven't enjoyed the game any less. Plenty of dedicated PvP games where the playing field is much more even, no shame in it.

Its just difficult to get an point across when no ones objective, my point was simply to point out my experience. The game rocks regardless, luv it!

What keeps you from switching between Solo and Open?
I do switch all the time. It really depends on what I want to do and my mood.
For some actions Players are simple an anoying distrubance which makes it impossible to enjoy the game the pure way.
-
Example: You can't enjoy a conflict zone where each ship is equal as soon as there are players in it. It turns into a PvP situation which blends out every other conflict mechanics. So if I am not in a PvP mood than I don't go open in a conflict zone as simple as that.
If I just want to travel and meet other comanders maybe have a fair fight I go open.
However you wont find me open in a defencless vessel since there is no point playing food for coward pirates.

I aint whining ther mate...simply noting a change
im coping :)

Fail to understand the purpose of these threads either. There is sod all to do together with people other than meet up and blink lights at one another. And once again its this very odd psychology re players. Do NPCs not interdict, shoot and send messages?

I say go play solo and report back re the tedium.

no. Sociopaths should not get to force people out of open play. FD need to stay true to their word, true to what they repeatedly promised before launch:

Ban those sociopathic RPK to their own private group.
