Newcomer / Intro Open Play Or Private Group?

Hello,

I'm curious if most players play in private group servers or the open play server? I like running into other players and just wondering if should join private group in order to accomplish that?

It depends on what you are doing in the game at the moment. For example, if you are hauling for credits, it's better to play Solo/Private to avoid being interdicted by players who are just trouble-seekers. There are several accounts from other CMDRs that they can get shot by fully modded ships that you stand absolutely zero chance against just for their entertainment.

I play a mix of open and small pirvate groups and sometimes also solo. My main-playground is open though. I don't do Möbius. I think PvP is legit for a muliplayer environment. For more privacy, playing with friends, there is groups or solo for the singelplayer experience.

There is no "stuck" - the player can choose on a session-by-session basis which game mode to play in with their CMDR.

From the limited polls people have done on here most people still play in open.

It is rare to have trouble with other players once you move away from the starting systems unless you enter CGs which attract lots of players of all kinds. CGs can be great fun for that reason though. Just don't fly what you can't afford to rebuy is the golden rule and if going somewhere dangerous take a cheap fast ship e.g. cobra.

Open, but if I'm tired and not up for the heart pumping from a player interdiction I'll play in Mobius. Open is good but you have to be aware that all play styles are acceptable in open so although it is VERY unusual to meet others who will kill on sight, and unusual that you will meet a player pirate it will happen from time to time (with the exception of CGs, these attract all types of players). If you are prepared for this then fine, too many people play in open but are not prepared for this sort of interaction and then post whining about it when it happens. Much better to be prepared for it or play in a different mode.

I have mainly played in Solo, I switched to Open for that Planet Wilson incident and played that way for a while but as an inveterate CG player with mostly unmodified ships found that to fretful so I have decided to play in the Möbius group.

Play wherever you feel comfortable, and switch when you want to.

Quite a lot of the time when in Möbius or Open I have run into no more players than I did in Solo, mostly you find them at certain hotspots like Jaques, CG systems, Engineer systems and those systems (in)famous for their ability to boost your credit balance. Unfortunately the latter two have been associated with players more interested in ensuring that having gotten all the advantages these systems provide others shouldn't be allowed to do the same. But as I said most of the time you will see almost nobody.
