Off to the PvP forum with you, OP!
That video should be the first "training video" in the game.
Because nothing is worse for your credits/hour than a re-buy screen.
Seriously, open is fun, but you need to treat it the right way. Open contains the *only* serious threat in the game once you have spent a bit of time in game and know how to fly.
Key point -
know how to fly. This does not have to mean PvP God™. I'm fairly low down in the PvP skill rankings, bottom 30% easily, but I know my ships, I know how I built them (an dhow to build them to survive), and I know how to pay attention to the scanner.
And that's it, I treat CG's in open as blockade runs, my goal is to, primarily, not explode, and goal number to is to deliver my cargo. In that order.
My Asp X is light, fast, very low heat, and painted black. It's designed to evade. There are no guns - like any reasonable PvP ship will even notice the spit balls it would likely shoot. Nope - it runs, and it has yet to be taken out.
My Anaconda can't really run or hide, but it can shield tank, and it can hull tank - and that's exactly what it does. Sure it has G5 dirty drives, but it also has highly engineered shields, boosters, and hull+module re-enforcements. And, it still hauls a boatload of cargo - and man, can she jump!
All said and done, my primary defence is the good 'ol optic nerve. Look out for hollow squares (or worse, triangles), and if they start getting close to you, point your nose at them (they need to be behind you to interdict), and have a system selected to run to. If things are looking scary, start charging that FSD, and get out of there.
None of this is new - and that Git Gud Guide is a rather amusing, and extremely informative video. Required viewing - that video alone is enough information for the newest newbie to survive open.
