Open play trolls

I mentioned to a friend of mine who lurks here that we hadn't had one of these threads for a while.

Welcome to open, OP. Either learn to fight back, or run. Sitting there caught in the headlights like a rabbit doesn't work in open.

Nice. Repped.

Come to Mobius, we have cookies lol.

No. Don't retreat into Mobius, OP. Learn to survive. Go to the PvP sub and we'll be happy to teach you.

Less than an hour in open play and killed twice by trolls for no reason, no bounty.

While doing the community goal at that. Seriously what do you gain by ruining open. Play experience for new players

They weren't "trolling" you. They were opposing the CG goal, clearly.

Edit: big agree with Vindelanos: don't retreat to private. Fight, learn, adapt!

Off to the PvP forum with you, OP!

That video should be the first "training video" in the game.

Because nothing is worse for your credits/hour than a re-buy screen.

Seriously, open is fun, but you need to treat it the right way. Open contains the *only* serious threat in the game once you have spent a bit of time in game and know how to fly.

Key point - know how to fly. This does not have to mean PvP God™. I'm fairly low down in the PvP skill rankings, bottom 30% easily, but I know my ships, I know how I built them (an dhow to build them to survive), and I know how to pay attention to the scanner.

And that's it, I treat CG's in open as blockade runs, my goal is to, primarily, not explode, and goal number to is to deliver my cargo. In that order.

My Asp X is light, fast, very low heat, and painted black. It's designed to evade. There are no guns - like any reasonable PvP ship will even notice the spit balls it would likely shoot. Nope - it runs, and it has yet to be taken out.

My Anaconda can't really run or hide, but it can shield tank, and it can hull tank - and that's exactly what it does. Sure it has G5 dirty drives, but it also has highly engineered shields, boosters, and hull+module re-enforcements. And, it still hauls a boatload of cargo - and man, can she jump!

All said and done, my primary defence is the good 'ol optic nerve. Look out for hollow squares (or worse, triangles), and if they start getting close to you, point your nose at them (they need to be behind you to interdict), and have a system selected to run to. If things are looking scary, start charging that FSD, and get out of there.

None of this is new - and that Git Gud Guide is a rather amusing, and extremely informative video. Required viewing - that video alone is enough information for the newest newbie to survive open.

I'm fairly new so thanks for all the nice comments, so doing anything in open you should just expect to be killed for no reason at any time?

It's a particularly dangerous CG to go to. No large landing pad, no Haz Res in System.

And Chieftans, lots of Chieftans attacking everything that moves.

At CG's, yes. Join the PvP Hub and come to San Tu; the best pilots in the game will teach you how to fight back.

Well with your newly-discovered morally and ethically cleansed side, shouldn't you be hotfooting across to bring these scoundrels to justice?

I was dueling with just one such baddy when my wife gave me the dark look and marched out of the office muttering something about how boring I was and how I was "not getting any later tonight." I, of course, was logged out 15 seconds later:)

I don't know what a pvp hub is, and not being engineered to the max there isn't much that can be done against experts

It's not quite as bad as that, and nowhere near as bad as some people who will inevitably arrive in this thread soon will make out.

If you're in open around player hotspots, ie. Founder's World or Community Goals, then there's plenty of people who like nothing more than popping open the guts of a new player's ship. If you're going to be in open around those areas, you absolutely 100% have to be prepared. Follow Vin's advice, the vast majority of PvP players are more than willing to help someone out.

As for the rest of the game, you can play in open away from hotspots and not see a single soul for days. And even then if you do, the most danger you'll encounter is a friendly 'hello' in local chat.

Yes.... open is for morons and gankers.....
Solo is for cowards and traders
Groups are for ..... whatever.

No matter what you do. There are always someone ing you.
So do solo and avoid gankers and grifers and salters.
Nothing to lose there.

Now you see, a good wife would sit at the side of you whispering such sweet nothings like 'if you kill that player Chieftain in the next couple of minutes you're getting extra tonight', before returning to her own PC and continuing to engineer her own murderhobo-grade FdL.

I'll openly disagree. Go to a PG if you prefer not to deal with PvP nonsense.

Opposing a CG, really? Has that EVER actually worked? Gonna have to guess no here.
Power-Playing? I've Power Played plenty and never fired a shot. It's not necessary and the recourse of the inept. The real power lies in manipulation and subtlety. Something largely lacking in Power Play, but some manipulation is possible.

I don't like Open because networking in Open just plain blows. Too many people on Can-and-String net to have a good experience for me. If you're not at least 50 x 10, you're too latent. If I have to see your ship ........................... skipacross ....................................... spacelikethis, well, I just don't want to see you - nothing personal, I just can't stand it.

Remember: "Play your way"? It's a two way street. If you'd rather play without having to deal with Open People, that's fine - do it. If you do want to play with Open People, then yes, know full well there are people out there with nothing better to do than cost you credits.
