Powerplay Open Power Play, Antibotting on a Budget

Previous threads have provided compelling evidence of botting to either manipulate the BGS, or attack Powerplay Factions by prepping poorly positioned systems.

I will not detail the many reasons why botting is bad for a multiplayer game, but it truly is.

Monitoring and disciplining botters requires a substantial investment of resources.

I suspect, given FDEVs track record of minimal investment for maximum outcome, that employing players as bot police is a significant motivator in pushing Power Play into Open.

There are many reasons to have a conflict-based game feature in Open, but I am curious if you all think addressing botting has something to do with it.

Forgive me if im wrong but botting can affect pretty much any and all aspects of the game. Moving one game feature to open only will not solve that issue.

So no I don't think its an attempt to moderate bots on the cheap.

Botting for personal gain does not affect other players, but botting in the context of the BGS and Power play does.

Botting is wrong no matter what mode its done in.

Regardless moving PP to open only wont solve the issue at all and they'll still have to contend with bots impacting the BSG.

I agree. Makes me wonder if BGS play will eventually move to Open as well.

Easiest way would be to delete solo and have open only. Then other players could help me blaze my own trail. Target Rich Enviroment. And botting would die

And how great will the game be when the majority of players - and the money they spend - leave? How great will forcing players to play the way you want them to or quit be when the game folds, through lack of revenue?

This anti-botting as a reason for open PP is nonsense for a couple reasons.
1) The videos of the suspected bots were taken from open, they're already accessible targets.
2) The suspected bots f4 to avoid destruction. Nothing about this behavior will change.

I appreciate your insight on the validity of botting claims. Why a botter would bot in open may be a matter of hubris rather than functionality.

I don't think it would be that hard to script an f4 keypress if damage is taken when this information may be listed in the log. I also posted a thread in which I posited that clogging would become a much larger issue with open-only PP.

If any botting occurs in PG or Solo for PP, it will be substantially be exposed in Open, and policed by participating players.

The script was modified after they got caught, and now they run in private and solo. They are no longer accessible targets.
They can evade, but they will still get noted and reported as bots if in open, which closes the account for a while.

If PP becomes open only, I hope you're able to counter the bots accordingly.
A lot of work went into the capturing/analysis of it.

Botting is wrong anywhere, but some of you really need scale back a skosh. It will always be a problem in any mode considering they were operating in open also. Unless real world money is involved with the use of bots I dont see FDEV really too much to nip it completely in the bud.

That is my conjecture. It's cheaper to get the player base to handle it rather than to devote any resources to it.

If its really attempt to fight botting (I doubt it), its misguided and will not work.
Its pretty trivial to block instancing P2P connects - anyone competent enough to run bots is going to be able to do it.

This makes more sense than the idea that PP would somehow make PVP fun within this game. PP instancing, not changing from what it currently is, will have very little effect on blockades, etc. Player policing of bots..quite effective because the bots would be in the way of regular players quite often.

Same thing can be said for a lot of players forced into Open for PP....
