Open Really sucks sometimes

So, I was happily farming a RES zone that was spawning wings of Dangerous ranked Pythons and Clippers and I had something like 6 mil in bounties sitting in my transactions.

I was taking a breather for 5 mins to let my shields reboot and recharge when a player FDL jumped in. (Vulture Shields take ages to reboot and recharge)

They said "Hey" then shot at me with my shields down, turning me into swiss cheese.
I was literally raising my coffee cup to my mouth as this happened so I was NOT pleased and came THIS close to needing a new keyboard.

I had been there for almost an hour and it had taken we two more to get decent spawns going.........

Losing ALL your bounties and eating a 1 mil rebuy due to players being lame and sniping you for no reason other than wanting to farm your RES is really crappy.

The planet was one of five gas giants with rings in the system and orbited the secondary star in the system too, so it not like I was easy to find....

Glad I will never have to worry about this,, now if i could just avoid the d-bags in real life as well...

I know how you're feeling, it really sucks when someone decides to be a douchebag for no reason, but the vast majority of the players are friendly, you have more chances to find a wingmate than an enemy in a RES. Most of the players I find end up grouping up with me for PvE.

Sucks that you had this experience but Its part of the game, you have to keep one thing in mind, if you're not willing to die don't even undock.

Also, always stay alert, if you see a hollow blip on the radar try to be aware of his moves.

I feel your pain. Now may I suggest you go get your bounty every other million or so? Basically I made the following rule for myself: 1 hour of bounty = go cash it. Because a more or less similar story happened to me (I lost "ony" 2M).

What really got me was that I was in the middle of nowhere when it happened.

I went and checked and the star is ~120k LS from the jump point!

I had one eye on Twitch and another on the game while I took a drink but it took me totally by surprise.

The most frustrating part is that there is no effective way to do anything about it especially if you're being double-teamed and outclassed by better ships (as I just was).

There's no faction -wide chat, so you can't call in help. There's really no NPC security response to speak of. There's no naming policy on the forums so you can't even come here to try to get some community justice. You just have to take it, I guess. I like the concept of Open play but I can see why some people go for Solo or Private Group.

Its why I was sitting above the asteroids taking a drink, I was thinking of jumping out right there.

I'm not siding with the guys who killed you. But, with that many vouchers in your pocket, surely the best way to take a break would have been to head back and rearm/repair and bank what you earned?
Gotta track players really well and, one way or another, discern their intentions quickly.

That it does man....hate when people are d-bags for no discernible reason beyond the fact that they can be. Ironically it is also this type that would most probably drop the game like a hot potato if Open were to become a ghost town complete with tumbleweeds because of this type of thing. I've taken to periodically dropping out of supercruise now on my way to a station if I even see players in the same instance because it is too potentially costly to trust anyone let alone try and communicate with them and get caught in a firefight while you have the chat box open......

From another point of view, that's precisely the reason I keep playing in open.
.
Seriously, if not for the thrill of meeting potentially dangerous situations involving human players, there will be times I'd literally fall asleep over the keyboard.
.
It is a calculated risk I'm willing to asume in order to make the game a little more exciting. Honestly ,I prefer that sudden boost of adrenaline than being filthy rich but dying of boredom. If I lose some millions, so be it. I'll try to be more careful/better next time.

That said, yes, that commander was a d-bag.

Thankfully you didn't sign off saying it was worth it because it was soooo exciting...

It's elite DANGEROUS. sometimes it must suck.
There is only one possibility.
Stop being chase, become hunter.

In ASP/clipper/FDL/Anaconda it's impossible to kill you if you're good player. you can escape/kill everyone.
And... second rule of elite - you have to be ready everything, even aliens!

I killed a lot of players, sometimes because they were in my RES/CZ. Of course i'm always asking for leave...

BTW. Have you got his name?

I have tried open 4 times, and been killed 4 times with 0 chat/talking/warning. I only have an asp, so not hard for a Python/Anaconda/Vulture to kill me. Personally I am not coming back to open anymore. I will play solo or with my buds. Screw open if keep silent killing others like this.

Well said - in that I share this POV. I will open up on a wanted commander in open, has a substantial hidden bounty but looks clean on the basic scan or shows as hostile/enemy. If he's clean and/or carries a small bounty, I will not. But more than anything, it's the thrill of the danger that excites. Just a week ago I escaped with 20pct hull from a in a Clipper that not only kill stole, but apparently was grazed by me during the kill-steal. He, 2 commanders in his wing and 2 NPC security vessels gave pursuit, and it was great! The CMDRs were definitely douches for their tactics, but thrills like these aren't found in Solo.

It's not open, it's the ability to trade in private and kill in open. But that's the game we've bought and it ain't changing. Surprised this thread hasn't been moved to open v solo.
