RCT 3 PC Open Source Theme Park Game Becoming a Reality

Shut up with the !!!!!

Ken is currently away, sorting things out. Hes closed the community forums as he will not be able to access them answering questions, posting updates etc...

He is working on the plan for the game, along with documentation and when he is all sorted out, and comes back online, we hope to get the developing started asap!!

No I won't shut up. Ken left in September 2006 and its January 2007. I honestly think that CM is a dead issue at this point. Am I saddened by this, yes? There should be many RCG's including open source games as well. Unfortunately Atari as a publisher never had it so good, because they owned basically a monpolized marketplace with the RCT series particularly RCT3.

No Limits and Virtual Rides are only simulators and thats it. So both have their limitations. While other open source community based products may be in the works (hopefully), I still find a place for a thrillville version for the pc, but only if it not only isn't a watered down version of RCT3, but rather offers not only everything RCT3 did, but fills the features the world wide RCT3 community hungered for and screamed for over the years that Atari ignored them.

Ken is a very gifted and talented guy just like CS and David and Michael. But the way Ken left the community hanging one day a head of steam, the next day shut down, wasn't very nice. He let a great many people down. You cannot partner with a community than just shut em down the next day because you have an issue personally. A partnership doesn't work like that. When you have others involved in a business relationship (and trust me, using the community is business) than they must be treated as the business partner they are and respected as such. I don't know that in 6 months from now, the community would put much stock back into Ken, CM just like they rather despise the publisher he worked for. Nobody likes being asked to pay or participate for something, helping make it number one, than abandoned with no furutre. That is what Atari did, and in a sense CM as well. It really was more madness than the real deal. Its the most horrible feeling in the world.

That's why...

Heya keep it clean now, users are welcome to their opinion - as long as it doesn't violate the rules (ToS) of this forum. :)

I have to agree with every word Sebar. I was very sadden when i found out that Ken had up and left the project. I was really hoping this would turn out.

Thanks Leather.

Its always sad to see what happened especially when you consider that it was number one just a couple of years ago. But thats the way the corporation crumbles as I have said with frequency as of late.

The main problem was they ignored what their users wanted. I honestly  have never met too many business that stayed in business for very long that didn't fill the market need. You know the old "Economics 101" thing, but than again lotsa big companies do not, it seems.

Will Frontier under David's nurturing guidance do the right thing and please a world wide market as well as the father of Vader? Only time will tell.

As for erhmmm, the future? I believe it indeed will be grand, in fact its almost a guarantee ;) So keep the faith my friend and remember when it comes to the RCG community...

Well on your reply my friend...

Yes there should be many options and products both commercial  and non-commercial :D out there. I think that each would offer something unique and very different than the other, though I am sure over time, some would copy others, perhaps improving on what the former put out on the market.

Having competition is a grand thing, because it spurs ideas and growth. Without it, we would end up, well, err, like a RCT3 community and really, who wants to end up like that

So I encourage everyone to come together and like my new motto says...

We need competition.

Indeed. They are very hard things to get off the ground, I would imagine, and in danger of descending into a who-owns-what fight if anything does begin to come together, especially if they end up as principally the work of one or two dedicated individuals, as I suspect it will.

There should be many projects both professional and community driven in the field. I don't necessarily believe that either would hurt the other, in fact the competition would drive many to become creative artists whether in 3d modeling, programming or any other input on the projects.

Unfortunately Ken abandoned the community so the community has moved onward and upward. Hopefully thrillville for the pc will not make a console mistake and offer a watered down product. In order for Thrillville to succeed RCT3, it will have to offer everything RCT3 did, plus a lot more including many future theme and ride expansions, fixes for existing RCT3 problems and most of all, continue to offer the management and construction options that RCT3 did plus more.

David in addressing your comments. There are those who will fight one another especially where money is involved, but in reality if it is a non-profit endeavor I have far more faith in the world community to make things happen and coming together. Here are two examples and they are very plain and basic to note. The example that fits your comment of fighting.

Frontier Versus Atari

Okay on the community end of things, just look at the Scenerymakers who are all endeavoring to continue making scenery for a dead platform. No fighting between themselves. In fact the community of scenerymakers is actually well organized, compliment each other in almost all cases and in fact continue with almost no restraints. This perfectly is a major example of your comments in real world life which everyone will agree is accurate.

Now if the community can make scenery, think of what they can do with an army of loyal dedicated friends who are 3d modelers, programmers, and millions of users? That is exactly my point. Because...
