Open v Solo? - Try Open v Open!

Until instancing issues are fixed, I think the discussion of which modes affect which are redundant. 'Open' mode cannot even affect itself properly. For weeks now, groups of players from opposing factions/groups/clans have arranged to meet each other for combat and the result has to be seen to be believed. My faction offended another faction the first time we tried to meet them because some of our players made accusations of 'chickening out' to the opposition group that we assumed had not turned up (it takes a lot of organising to get more than a wing of players to a certain location at a certain time). Now that I've tried to meet another wing or two of players on several occasions, I've realised that 'Open' mode is quite simply' broken. It's quite comical actually: in order to meet each other, we first have to quit the game, log back on and reform wings, and if this doesn't work, we have to invite a player from the enemy faction into one of our wings...

I do not play in open as I have no interest in PvP.

However I can sympathise with your plight. It does seem that the P2P technology is either not fit for this type of playstyle or iust not working correctly. Maybe CQC will fix some of the under the hood things though not sure if this will spill into Open/Groups or just be limited to the CQC 'arenas'.

Thanks BigFW, it really isn't a go at mixed modes, but it is quite a serious problem with the 'open' world. I felt quite naive as I wondered what all the fuss was about - you don't really come across it until you actually try to arrange meeting a couple of enemy wings. I'm more for meeting enemies within the environment of the game than arranged matches, however, this did bring to light how many enemy wings, or just other players, we are simply not seeing when playing in open.

I have noticed a dramatic deterioration in the quality open over the last month. I can't even follow people out of normal space back into supercruise anymore.
