Open vs Solo play

I'm just looking for some clarification on how this works.

I intend to play Open play essentially exclusively as I think dealing with other live players adds some really good immersion and potential 'Oh ****' moments. I recognize this is my own opinion and preference and is not shared by everyone.

My question: Are the solo and open play options mutually exclusive, or can you play solo, then switch back and forth?

The reason I ask is that if I play Open and work my butt off to earn creds and upgrade my stuff while watching out for hostile other players, can someone else who plays solo get all their creds and equipment then pop over and be better outfitted than me without having worried about other players the whole time while getting there? If so, not sure how I feel about that.

Not trying to make any body ill, just asking for clarification.

short answer... yes.

long answer.. yes its a possibility depending on who you ask.. normal people, or those easy mode guys.
