Horizons Opinion from a "Worth a Buy" guy...

I've only flicked through the above but I have to say I really dislike this guy's "reviews".

So much hyperbole, he's always right, seems to come in with his opinion already decided and is not willing to give a game the benefit of the doubt.

This is the chap that slated Dark Souls PC as "the biggest pile of donkey [poo] I've ever had the misfortune to look at".

Now the guy's totally entitled to that opinion, horses for courses but the reason for that slating was because the game's meant to be played with a joypad (console port) and he refused to do that, so the game must be "the biggest pile of....." right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuEK1HDnALM eejit.

I do not value this guy's opinion.

Started to listen but the voice reminded me too much of the child catcher from chitty chitty bang bang, sent shivers down my spine, Go away please.

i loved his original ED WAB.....im sure he used to be called Macscorner?......i like his style, hes a old school gamer.
bit of a weird review by him though,he is not normally that unhinged lol

I respect Mac a lot. The crux of his review is right even if some of his details are not.

You can't really argue that Horizons is not ready yet.

Clickbait nonsense. Guy spends the first 2 minutes waffling about being an 84'er and then launches into his inane hyperbolic "funny for teenagers" verdict on the expansion based solely on the price point.

I'd give this review a solid 5/7...

Further on "Why can't I jump into a wing-mate's interdiction?"

Further on "Why can't I walk around my ship?"

Revised opinion, a shocking 5/7...

"It takes too long to gather synthesis resources"

And to finish off he starts swearing his head off about the lack of "thargons", player housing / storage and tells Mr Braben to sack his entire dev team.

TLDR: 15 minutes of a sweary guy ranting that an expansion advertised without any of the features he seems to want in it, was delivered with none of the features he wanted in it.

A headshaking 5/7

"The new missions don't pay much"

I haven't found a single point so far I agree with.

This is the absolute perfect review and MOST FAIR review Horizons can get.
Horizons smells with so much greed many players for the first time feel like they were simply robbed.
Elite Dangerous is the most over promised game i heard of and played. So little is in the game that the most common answer from overhyped players is " you need to use your imagination ".

Simply putted ( and its hard for me to even say this after how long i was pure Elite player ) if this game won't change the moment Star Citizen will be release this game will die and be forgot and it will be a damn shame as this game already have amazing engine with as much content as solitare ( but less fun ).

Mac is a 84er.....like myself....also belives in evolution of games aswell

Why does he feel the need to go on a 15 minute rant for something that can be simply stated thusly, "I disagree with the price of the game" and is solved by simply not buying the game if you think the price point is too high. Use some common sense people.

I personally am fine with the price so i had no problem buying it.

He sounds unhinged for the same reason many people get upset on these forums. He was passionate about the game that was pitched to him but is upset with what he got. Nothing he said was wrong. I spent 3.95 on a game called Inquisitor from the steam sale a couple days ago. I've already logged more hours in it then Horizons and I got in during so-called Beta. It appears we are now in Beta or maybe Alpha as it's now called early access (I'm so confused) Nothing in this expansion was worth 70 bucks. I'm still waiting for season 1's content.

Personally, I respect him and most of his reviews.
He's sometimes very passionate about his opinions, so they often turn out funny.
Of course not everyone will agree with his opinions, but that's how it is.

The fact is, this is the first video review of Horizons from someone who is considered to be a serious and bigger reviewer, and it's negative.
He's also very reputable among reviewers' circles.

Whether someone liked it or not, it's gonna affect the sales of Horizons and game in general.
Now imagine if some bigger reviewers, such as Angry Joe, etc. would give it bad scores?
I'm not too happy about this either, but let's not take this too easily and disregard negative reviews so easily.
After all, criticism creates progress, you agree ?

Well I just started watching it, had to turn off about 3/4 through. Sorry but for me it just comes across like one of the rants that get posted here on the forums from time to time. He's asking why we can't walk round in ships, why we haven't got Thargoids, all in an angry voice.

He even does the thing where you say "I paid £40 for ED but a new player buying today gets Horizons AND ED for that, how is that fair", conveniently ignoring that he's had the game for a year.

Then he does the "why can't we have feature X <that will take a ton of programming time> instead of alphabet bobbleheads", again a pretty ignorant comment.

I'm not even sure I'd call it a review, it's just him moaning about a bunch of things, the majority of his points I don't think are very well thought out. I think I stand by my assessment in post 2 of him as a reviewer.

Constructive criticism sure, but he's just on a rant as far as I can see. His points don't stand up in the context of how ED has evolved and is evolving, first person, Thargoids, the payment model?

The review seems structured to elicit an emotional response in who ever going to watch it, yet the arguments he's using to do that (IMHO) will be full of holes to anyone who's played the game, but of course someone who hasn't won't know that and so will think this is valid criticism. So as I see it his points are wrong to anyone who plays, and misleading for anyone who doesn't, which to me does not seem like a good review.

When you say he's very reputable among reviewers' circles, what do you mean? As I say from what I've seen of him (admittedly not much for a long time I unsubbed quite a while ago) he isn't capable of writing a decent impartial review. I think he has a personality some might find appealing, chap next door innit, this I think is why I subbed in the first place.

I think you need to all watch some of his other reviews to get his style. He's not wrong with the gist of his assessment though.

Well, he's managed to get about 16 people to discuss his post. Don't take the bait!

No clickbait intentions here friends. I have no use for it, neither do I care for it. It doesn't interest me. I'm not 13 years old or something to resort to something like that. Why would I do it anyway? Don't get yourself so deceived. It's sad to see people bringing such conclusions so easily.

I merely wanted to share the first video review of Horizons from someone who has more than 2 subscribers, and share the unfortunate news that it's negative.
If you don't think this is relevant to Horizons or has no real significance, then mods may be free to lock this thread.

Fair ?

I made it about 15 seconds into the video before turning it off. How the hell do you watch that annoying garbage with sincerity? Let alone take anything he says seriously.

His rant is just part of his act like Angry Joe. It's for entertainment. If you watched his original review you would probably understand his passion a bit better. Bitstorm I really don't understand the "you got to play it for a year argument"? Not being rude, I just don't understand it. If I bought the game today I wouldn't feel upset that I didn't get to play it for the past year. I would have been too busy playing something else and now have got the same level of enjoyment as you for less money and more content (sort of) I'm really not sure I understand the logic. The person who buys it next year or the year after will get even better deals for the same enjoyment. By then Many players will probably be playing SC or Evochron Legacy or No Man's Sky or Infinity Battlescape or Everspace or...........

That's not a review, that's just a rant. He clearly wanted to play another game, got infuriated that it was not what he was expecting, and rants.

I mean, he has valid arguments, that we may agree or disagree with. I love Horizons, and have a great time with it, but that does not mean I could not hear criticism about it, and appreciate reviews that are do not fit in my own opinions. But the form he employs disqualify that as a proper review. There's no problem with ranting, just don't call this a review.
