Opinion Polls, How to get them...

So, maybe I am unique, but Opinion Polls have been the bane of my existence since Odyssey launched. Until yesterday, I had collected a sum total of 6 of them, even though I had run hundreds of missions, destroyed hundreds more tourist traps and checked every HAB dataport I came across along the way (probably 1000+). So I made it my mission to figure out how to farm this elusive data as effectively as possible to unlock that engineer and move on to having Night Vision on my suit. This is what I ended up with, and I am sharing the entire walkthrough:

1. Travel to Aria Hospitality Zone in Bilonesses and request landing. Other sites may work, but this is the only one I found that gave them out with any regularity.
2. Debark your ship and sprint/hop straight to the bar, avoiding the wandering guards, as they can get bugged trying to scan you. FYI: Hopping allows you to move at sprint the entire way.
3. Check the Bar dataport, it may have one or more of the following: Opinion Polls, Smear Campaign Plans (rarely, there are better spots), Combat Training Material, Evacuation Protocols, Recycling Logs, Air Quality Reports, Financial Projections, Classic Entertainment, Cat Media, Multimedia Entertainment, and Digital Designs.
4. There is a high (80%) chance of being scanned by a guard in the bar, so make sure you are clean and aware, don't run away by accident.
5. Sprint/Hop back to your ship, auto-launch, hit 25% speed to break auto-launch, boost, head straight up, when SC is active hit it and boost again, Don't throttle up. The point is to do the bare minimum to get in/out of SC.
6. Drop out of SC as soon as possible, you should be 10-11k above the base now.
7. Turn around pulling up on the stick, go full throttle, boost straight at the base, request landing at 7.5k. By pulling up, you will be approaching the landing pad correctly and not need to turn around, thus wasting time.
8. At 4k out slow to 75%, 2k 50%... 1.5k 25% and 0% when 300m above and almost to the pad for a quick auto-landing.
9. Repeat this process starting at step 2.

The process should only take you about 3 minutes per round. Do not kill the base, do not bother with the other HAB ports, I never found a OP in any of the other buildings, (and I checked a lot), just the bar.

Disclaimer: It is a slog, but the most effective way I found to get these dang things which have eluded me forever. I went from the 6 I have collected since Odyssey launch... to 20 Opinion Polls in about 24 hours of gameplay... 14 hours yesterday & 10 today doing the above (that's a serious slog).

I realized after posting that my predilection for snark had probably gotten the better of me again.
All good and nice try though! ;)
My first grind was actually camping, but 3 weeks straight in Lower Guk, murdering a rare Frog to get 2 of his rare drop daggers. Thankfully no games take it that far anymore, but getting these OP's did suck a lot.

I guess my first grind would have been endless cow runs for xp and Meph runs for gear in D2 to get a Zon and a Necro to lvl 99 back in college. After that, I spent a few decades being responsible and then ED happened (Elite...not the other ED).

Thanks, I might have to give this a go.

I hate grind for the sake of it -- although farming at Dav's Hope was atmospheric, until Odyssey messed up its location -- but as these things seem only to be used in unlocking that one Engineer, and not in any blueprints thankfully, it might be worth doing it as a one-off (or as a two-off, since I have two active accounts).

In normal play, with no targeted searches, I've managed to collect three Opinion Polls on one account and sod all on the other. I definitely need a boost of some sort.

I finished my OP grind at Bianchi's Serenity in Fullerene C60. You DO get opinion polls from data ports in the habitats.

It's anarchy, which makes grinding easier. However, it may be shut-down. That adds a good 5-10 minutes and you risk losing your power regulator in a crash.

I didn't say the habitats everywhere don't drop them, I said at the base I was at they never did and I checked them all probably 75+ times each. Also, if you are simply grinding for the OP's, you are wasting time bothering with the other dataports, which require breaking in, killing guards, probably having to park your ship a ways out and SRV to the base, unless you are willing to have your ship blown up occasionally, wasting even more time.

It is a 3 minute turn around with zero risk to check the bar dataport. Adding the other 4 dataports in the habs, adds more than 12 extra minutes, and adds risk, making it less effective, that's why I wrote the guide as I did.

Wrong wrong and WRONG.

These things only appear in bunches once you already have all you need and have already unlocked the engineer that wanted them.

I swear I roll my eyes every time I go to a data terminal and see a bunch of stuff I was so desperate for a month ago. I don't even check HAB data ports anymore out of spite.

Ahh, those were the days! Waiting in queue in a tiny little room in Lower Guk for the Assassin to spawn just to get the Mask of Deception.

Please, please, please, check the data ports and download useful data. There are other CMDRs desperately searching for what gets ignored. Do a good deed today, and tomorrow, or the next day, someone will do a good deed to you.

For what it's worth, I have been going to Rowe's Folly, in Patakaka. It's the same layout base, but anarchy (you don't earn a bounty on killing the NPCs). I can kill all the guards and clear the whole site in 5-7 mins, and it means I can hit 6 data ports, not one. I can also stock up on a bunch of other materials whilst doing this. Once done, take off, SC, drop SC, land again and repeat the process all over. I have gathered 9 opinion polls in ~3 hours.

never found one even after 1 hr of relog (fc stop reenter; fc stop reenter and so on) .

I wonder who has been the one in Fd who has put a drop so low...

There are several ways to approach this.

Go to Colonia as the engineering is so much easier.

Take missions that will have HABS so the data ports can be checked. Play the game and gather materials as you go along. Do not rush for the engineering unlocks.

Visit the materials exchange thread or call 1-800 Wandahasmaterials.
