Hi guys. I've tried making models before... But I can't replicate paint to save my life.

I want your opinion: Is there a place for fantasy "mercenary" vehicles? I got the idea from World of Tanks, which has gone a bit loopy, in a fun way.

The thinking here is that I'd then also be able to make a fantasy livery; not a replica of a real tank.

Thoughts? I need to do some research and see what turrets I can fit on hulls, but if it works out, could be cool.

Warhammer 40,000. Theres a dedicated shop here in Belfast that does a roaring trade in model kits...not much use to ye if yer not from Belfast, but thats what google is for. The place is busy enough to justify its own site so shouldnt be overly difficult to find...its based in Castlecourt Centre in the city so theres a few keywords.

Shop sells all the paint kits ye could possibly imagine ever existing along with a very wide range of models. If yer looking to experiment with mixing different parts to create something new, thats where I would start ^

Oh I'm very familiar with Warhammer. However I'm looking for a project with just a hint of reality, while still being fantasy, hence the idea of a hybrid turret/hull/gun machine.

If you seek inspiration for tanks that would be fantasy but close to reality, may I suggest Valkyria Chronicles?

Ooh... I had not heard of this. Anime too... Well, gotta' get started on a genre somewhere.

In that case Warhammer 40k (specifically the Imperial Guard) would be the thing for you, as the models offer a lot of flexibility in terms of both weaponry and supporting equipment.

Just have a look at the basic Leman Russ and the kits contents if you want to see what I mea

I will, cheers. :)

I do brass loco building, if you want your paintwork to look really great look up ‘weathering’ . I keep all the nasty old drying up enamel paints to make a weathering paint. Brings your models to life.
