Opinions: do you think HE SEEKERS should be "next threat"?

In a CZ when there are no HE SEEKERS around, if I am beating up on somebody and some other NPC has a crack at me, then when I am finished with my current target I hit the Next Threat and get targeted to the last ship who shot me. This is useful.

But as soon as there are HE SEEKERS around, then the darned Next Threat is ALWAYS one of them - NEVER a ship.

I find this rather annoying. Shouldn't the Next Threat always be a ship? These missiles are just roaming around and there are bucket loads of them in the CZ - so why should they be the biggest threat? A ship who is actively trying to shoot me should be the biggest threat, surely? What it means is that as soon as there are SEEKERS in the zone then there is absolutely no point in using the Threat button.

I'd like to see the HE SEEKERS not considered in the threat list. What do you think? Should I put this in the suggestion box?

I agree... I don't get it they are always selected, and it's pretty annoying.

That said, you can use the radar to tell who's shooting at you, so that helps (at least as long as there's just ONE attacker to choose from - if there are more, it's luck if you selected the "biggest threat").

Several months ago before the debilitating explosive damage nerf when missiles were a REAL threat this was eligible. Now them being the highest threat is just an annoyance.

I understand that - but even if they ARE the biggest threat there isn't anything you can really do about them. Perhaps the button should be renamed "biggest threat that you can shoot at".

And yes, you can use the radar to tell who's shooting at you - at that moment. But once your present target is shooting at you he takes precedence. Once you're done with him how do you tell who it was who shot before? In a CZ without the Seekers all you have to do is hit the threat button and you've got him nailed.

Yeah, that can be rather annoying. BTW, it also targets dumbfire missiles, not only heat seekers. And since I fly an FDL with good shields, missiles are absolutely no threat to me.

I have to disagree with this suggestion. I always carry a PD with me and it can be good to know where the missile is approaching from so I can orient the ship to allow the PD to do it's job. Not everyone is in an expensive tank.

Key is in the name... Target next threat - the missile is a threat

What you want is a target next SHIP adding to the game - this allows you to have you're game and others don't get something taken away which they use.

But the missiles aren't really as much of a threat as an Anaconda shooting at you. And the missiles also just float around and do nothing. I've been in CZ's where the radar has been literally littered with them - and not one was an actual threat to me as none of them actually went for me - they just floated around. And since there were so many of them there I could NEVER target an actual ship using the Threat button. If you look in the contact list you will always see the big ships at the top of the list and the missiles at the bottom - why? Because the big ships are the biggest threat. Yet the stupid button goes for the missiles first? That's just dumb - and inconsistent. IMO.

Except you can tell from the scanner how to do this. The problem is that highest threat targets any missile, even those fired by friendlies.

I agree, and sometimes if you're being fired upon and hit 'highest target', if there are proxy mines nearby then you'll target those as well. Proxy mines! I can't even think of a time where I've flown my ship through some of those and took any damage. It's extremely irritating.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info. That certainly needs fixing but I still maintain that next threat and next enemy ship are valid selection options. Using the scanner is ok but we do have a lot of new players right now and it takes a bit of time to get used to the scanner.
