PvP Opinions on aChief v. FdL in PvP.

Wrong thread
Uhhh, fine. I don't use premium. It's a crime against humanity. And I won't agree with you ever again...publicly. :x Hehehe...

Surprisingly, I found my Chief to be a bit faster than I thought it would be. The only thing I don't like about it is the size. It's an easy target.

Assuming experienced and comparable PvP pilots on both sides...?

I think if the Chieftain goes SCB, it should be quite a tasty match-up.

Unfortunately, because most players don't appreciate that SCB = meta, most SCB FdL's will only have to face sub-standard Chieftains, optimistically built with an over-estimation of the effectiveness of a bi-weave hull-tank hybrid.

Ofc where there is a significant skill advantage the hybrid or hull-tank often wins anyway. But where both pilots really know what they're doing? SCB = king.

What I'm saying is, as the vids start to come out, don't pay too much heed to the inevitable ton of hybrid Chieftain v SCB FdL vids. They just pose the question whether the Chieftain guy has enough skill to overcome his build handicap.

The truly interesting question, ship v ship, will be SCB Chieftain v SCB FdL. I predict that the FdL will still edge it though, as even taking into account that the Chieftain has the happy options of either c6 bi-weave for better active regen, or c6 SCB for overall health pool, the FdL retains significant base shield advantage.

It could be close, though...

Are the shielding options therefore:

6C Bi-Weave + 5A SCB

or

5A Prismatic + 6A SCB?

IMO I'd straight up rather have a challenger.

More DPS, it's only downside is it tops out at 500, but then it really can dance and lay out the pain, much more effectively than most ships in its class, think it beats FDL for me, by a long way

(SCB's arent meta)

What is then? (Sincerely!!)

I've tried both, the 1st incarnation of my Chief was SCB but I've switched to the hybrid Truesilver talks of. But mainly for PvE.

Now however PvP is coming back into play for me and I'm looking to find the current go to build.

I don't use shields man, (Incoming S**TSTORM).

I'm one of the hated perma boost pilots lol. Quite frankly if you run without a shield thats the buff you SHOULD get. Increased manuverability has always kept me alive far better than a thin veil of noob that most pilots seem to sucker onto.

EDIT: Yes, im massively bias to hull tanks. Buy a Viper 4 and hull tank that and you'll see why.

@GBill on a short break from ED but in brief, yes if you want to SCB tank on applicable mediums you should be running SCB's in the c6 slot(s) and downgrading shield if necessary.

Note however that 3.0 booster inflation and 3.1 Shield Reinf mean that overall a lot more of the total effective health should be in the base shield than previously. You may find that going all out on base shield beats SCB's on many builds, particularly when heat and usability and hull health are taken into account.
