Opportunist ship and loadout...?

So i've got around 500M and am just looking for a good ship and loadout so i can just sail around the galaxy comfortably picking up passengers, collecting mats doing a little pirate hunting, would be handy to land and drive SRV around and just take oppotunities as they arise...thinking about it it seems i need a Python (although i found it a little sluggish) but wondered if anyone else manages with just a single ship, not optimised for any one task but able to do most - perhaps except mining!

You won't be disappointed with the Python. Especially once you engineer it.

Yeah, i suspect that's where i'm headed. I've bought and sold a few already - wondered if the Clipper was a better bet...

The Python is definitely an end game ship and mine has earned many many times what I have spent on it for me.

I do think there is value in *not* owning a generalist ship though and maintaining a fleet of specialised smaller ships. The Python does everything so well I was getting tired of the game. I switched to buying and building some unique smaller ships and have had more fun doing it. Partly because of the novelty but also because doing base assaults in a Keelback with an SLF is actually quite hard. Piracy in an Imperial Eagle is also harder but the getaway is much easier. My T6 can outrun most Pirates and I'm optimistic I'll find a use for the AspS I am slowly building.

Thanks for insight Ouberous, i was pondering this approach too...i just need to be a bit more decisive on what role to pursue otherwise i'm back to shinrarta every 5 minutes...maybe dig my icourier out...

I'd say Python too.

Quick enough when engineered, reasonable jump range and capable of defending itself when required. A good all rounder which can land anywhere.

But you need to engineer it all they way to get the best out of it.

500 mil is enough for a well fitted Anaconda and some rebuy spare.
Go for A rated fsd, power plant and distributor for the start.
It exceeds python in every role.

Reasons:

Best Exploration vessel
Highest dps combat ship (f* T10) with very good defences - i love it
No rank requirements
Best ship for Thargoid hunting
Around 450 tonnes of cargo capacity for [mining and] trading (when a grade 4 shield is fitted I think) while heavily armed
Best ship for passenger missions ranging from economy to first class cabin requirements

Buy at Diauguandri for 15% off

Which is fine but it can't land at outposts.

Which is difficult if you are the roving trader type.

Don't get me wrong OP. I have a fleet of ships that range from small to large. I use them for all manner of different activities.

However because of their general utility and fuel range, I tend to spend most of my time in the Viper IV, Asp X, or Python.
