Ships optimal mass for shields

Is it possible to stay under or near the optimal mass for shield generator without having poor components?

How much does shield effectiveness decrease as exceed the optimal mass value?

Optimal mass is based on the default ship mass. Modules/cargo do not make a difference

Please check ED Shipyard and be informed.

If you are under optimal mass, you get the best shield value.
If you are anywhere past the optimal range but below the maximum range, you will get another value. It does not vary from that point.

Stock Python already exceeds the optimal hull mass for the 6A shield generator. It looks like Python users were always screwed over in the shields.

I don't claim to be an expert on this in any shape or form.. How does a stock Python exceed optimal mass for a 6A? Hull mass is 350T Optimal mass for a 6A is 540T

Yep, it's default hull mass that matters otherwise the 4A trade conda builds wouldn't work as they'd be above maximum mass.
