Optimal throttle for turning - anywhere in blue, exactly 50%, higher?

Greetings commanders!

Preparing for my dual sticks to arrive and, as any good nerd, planning how to use them in great detail. I will be using a switch to adjust throttle up and down while in supercruise and other lazy flight scenarios where I don't want to use the second stick axis for thrust, which leads me to my question:

What is the exact percentage that gives the best turn rate? Is it:

a) Anywhere in the blue zone, doesn't matter
b) exactly 50%
c) some other value?

I want to set the increments for the throttle button to allow me to hit the perfect turning circle spot.

As a side note, the same question can be asked for the perfect supercruise approach speed - how to get that 6/5 second approach time without overshooting. I reckon it is a bit above 50% throttle, maybe even 60%, but I don't have the numbers to back it up. Anyone know for certain?

Don't know about turning (50% seems too low IMHO), but 75% @ 6+ seconds, and you'll never overshoot in SC.

When SC and coming to the Satation/Planet, I ask Vasco (Voice Attack to set 75%).

If in battle i find optimum Turning is where the Blue dashed line has the brightest 2 Blue segments. There seems to me to be 2 or mybe 3 'Brite Blue Segments, and i aim to put the throttle 1/2 way tween these brite bars.

Turn rate does not depend on your throttle setting, but on your speed, so you'll want to have as much control over throttle as possible.

Thanks for the tips - wasn't aware that the supercruise optimum was as high as 75%! I have used a regular throttle so far so I just set it by feel to achieve that almost-5-but-not-quite second approach.

For combat I will use the left hand stick for thrust most likely, so that will give me analogue control and the ability to set it wherever. For regular flight and approaches to landing pads / starports however it would be neat to know the best possible throttle setting for maneuverability. I will start with 25% increments for the digital throttle buttons I reckon, and see how that goes.

Interesting, now that you mention it that makes sense, just never though about it! For supercruise though I'd imagine throttle setting is pretty equal to speed in most cases unless you overshoot something.

In my experience the best turn rates come at 50% in regular space, and 75% in super cruise. With your throttle anywhere in the blue zone, you will be in good shape. My throttle has no detent for zero or otherwise. I use a four stage hat switch to be able to set my throttle at 0/25/50/75% increments. With that, I find it easiest to just use those speeds as default.

Ideally I'd only really need five throttle settings:

0
Perfect Turn
Perfect Approach
99 m/s
Full Throttle

;) But that would be a bit gamey!

Yes it is a combination of both Speed of ship and Throttle position.
IME the two major factors for manoeuvrability in normal space are speed (as blue as possible) and engine pips (as many as possible), haven't really experimented much to see if fine-tuning throttle does much to help it though.

One of the devs - Mike Evans, I think - answered this a long time ago. Optimum mobility is achieved when the needle is in the exact centre of the blue

I have Logitech X3D Pro + G13 keyboard. Wanted manual throttle for precise control and immersion. But after few weeks of using stick's throttle I switched to keybinds. I have 25-50-70-100 and 0 with increase/decrease speed for landing. Didn't have any issues while flying. The most used buttons are: 100% (after taking off) and 75% (when counter says 0:07 till destination). The rest (25-50%) only when approaching landing pad and +/- and 0% only for fine tuning landing (I RP much at this point).

The only times I overshoot my target is when I don't pay attention to counter and miss 0:07 mark. Then it's 75% and turn, sometimes 50% when my speed is greater. After that - as usual.

It may look too much of keybinds but my G13 gives me more than I need and it feels like semi-HOTAS.

Will be interesting to see how much I use my throttle once I get the dual stick setup. I have currently planned to use one of the hats on the left stick to control throttle up and down in 25% increments, set to 75% and set to 0%. For finer control like combat and landing I will use the y (forward/back) axis on the left joystick to control thrust.
