Optimized NVCP settings

After posting these settings in another thread, And getting great feedback from two other members I feel it's appropriate to repost and share the wealth. these settings were tested on 3 different systems (mine and 2 others) with completely different specs. I cant explain why this works but it does..and it does it very well. In my opinion this is the single most effective method for optimizing perfomance on the rift. I tried sweetfx but didnt really see an improvement. with this method there is nothing to download or install. all thats needed here is a few NVCP tweaks and you're good to go:D..look carefully at the PHYSX selection. If you dont run an SLi setup then just max out the AA as high as you can.

Thanks for this. I never got DSR to work when choosing in-game DSR, just got black screens. I thought DSR wasn't working when not chosen in-game but apparently it does work when chosen in NVCP? Gonna try this out.

What is the reason to set PhysX to CPU? Does it improve frame rates by offloading work?

ps: have 2x970, if this all works it would be amazing

the physx>cpu thingy really helped me with micro stutter and SLi latency and yes, I do think it lightens the load so to say. if you have 2x 970's you're in for a treat.. I'm running ultra with 2x 670 pe's

Just tried this, it works. I don't have SLI 64x CSAA though so mine's at SLI 16x AA.

However, I have a hard time seeing the difference between 1920x1080 and any DSR setting.

Below two screenshots. Can you tell which is at 4xDSR and which is 1920x1080?

Beavis, I couldn't help but notice your post, bearing in mind I haven't tried tweaking my ED DK2 settings for months. Using your settings I find that I get some flicker when ED loads up in the headset. The menus are now harder to read. I have reverted back to my earlier configuration which was 2560 x 1440 oversampled as set in the NVIDIA control panel. 2560 selected in game with low graphics set.

Maybe there's a sweet spot somewhere in between.

If I set DSR in-game I get horrible judder even on the lowest settings. It's the same problem alot of folks are having. For some strange reason maxing out settings as posted above increases performance for most who have tried it. strange but effective.

DSR just seems like a blurred mess to me. Its looks much nicer and sharper at native resolution.

I suspect the one thing that is enabling all this is PhysX on CPU. I'm disabling DSR again as the improvements, even at 4xDSR (4K), are not visible to me. I'd rather spend the GPU power towards maximizing judder free play.

Wow, works for me too! Didn't use DSR thou since I found it stuttered on my rig (I have sweetfx enabled, maybe that's the cause?) on native res it's the smoothest ride I had on ED yet! Thank you so much :)

Gtx980 on old 1366 board i7 920@4ghz

I just bounty hunted for 20min in my systems RES and only as I had to bail from an anaconda noticed that not a single little stutter broke my immersion .. Wow again!

I wonder if the DSR works better for older, humble rigs like mine seeing as I have the option to set my AA to 64x csaa. its a helluva jump from 16x. I just dont understand why nvidia would remove that option for newer cards that can actually handle it.

Ok, this post is going to be full of praise and perhaps a bit of placebo!

I did the steps outlined in the op (I put every nvidia setting as high as they could go), except the dsr (fps drop). Settings in game are mostly low, but a few mediums. I`m sporting a i5 3570k at 4.2 Ghz and a single gtx770. Also I downloaded msi afterburner and that riva err thing so I could get some fps, cpu and gpu usage while testing elite.

I can happily report that 1: Image quality is much improved!!! I also use the sweetfx found in atlas974 thread, but with capt.americas settings. A big thanks to both of you!!!

2: FPS is very very very good!!! In space and supercruise it sits at 75 fps. In hangar it dips down to low sixties, but at launch and until I leave the letterbox about 75. At the last RES site I was at it was an anaconda summit and the site just exploded in activity. At the beginning, 75 but steady and never below 60 after a while.

The placebo part? Well I believe I noticed improvements allready in the first meny on startup. Mouse just seemed to move smoother.

This is my first real venture into 75 fps on elite dangerous and low persistence and it is so smooooooth! I bough a used rift dk2 and thought I was going to try it for a while and sell it when I was bored of it. Tnx to advice like this, I know I`m not going to sell it. Been having an absolute blast in elite and assetto corsa and plan on doing so!

All I can say is, Beavis Tingleball you are my personal hero, sir!!!

maybe i need to retinker with sweetfx. honestly i didnt give it much time. the color settings turned me off something big. I am glad that I could help some of you squeeze a few more drops out of your machines. us poor folk have to make due with what we have lol..

I know that the mods are trying to cut down on the # of stickies and such, but if this tweak method really works for even half of us I would ask that it be added to the list.

read the stats of these two members machines, then read their performance gains/loss with the NVCP method and tell me what you see..
