Option to disable automatic opening of side panels when looking at them

I would love the option that if I look left or right, the panels don't automatically open.

This option can sometimes lock up your controls because the input will focus on that window. Also, it sometimes obscures what you are trying to look at (a pretty planet for example, or a target).

I would love this option so that the panels only open by pressing the corresponding keys, 1 or 2 by default.

I would love this option too. I used to activate comms before, as it stopped the windows from popping up if you wanted to enjoy the view, but this has changed with the wings update and is no longer possible. +1

This needs to be implemented. I tried setting up holding a switch trigger with Target software that turns off the panel.. then toggle the switch to the other position to release the key, allowing the panes to work again.. it works great, but holdin the key down messed up other aspects of the UI later.

If so it should be a selectable option.

Personally I use TrackIR and love the feature for auto panel focus. Not sure with normal viewing, but In TRackIR you need to look left or right and down a bit to trigger the panel so normal panning and tracking via the full canopy FOV doesn't trigger the panels since that is not an area that my head tracks during combat, for example. (currently in vulture).

Agree. They already have the option to prevent the automatic head turn when opening the panels for users with a wide fov - this is effectively just the opposite, allow us to look left or right without the panels automatically popping up as an option.

I agree. In fact, it'd be nice if headtracking settings (like the Rift) had an option to turn the shift key itself into a enable/disable screens toggle key, since shift is already used to open them for non-headtracking play. Losing ship controls because I wanted to follow an enemy visually is really annoying.

This panels are so freaking annoying in Oculus its 1.3 already and this super stupid thing is still there and i cant TURN IT OFF !!!!!!
Is there any reason why developers ignore this ?
It really bothers me especially if you turn your head like crazy in dogfight its like DISCO left and right and that sound grrr.

Offer it with a toggle/hold bind option please.

Grrrr!

So Horizons gives you the option to turn off the "Look At" functionality of all the panels (individually). So while using headlook, the panels do not open up. But this cannot be done via a key, so you turn them off and that it!

If only you could (optionally) assign a key to toggle/hold to do this!

Do you really need to be able to toggle their operating "mode" that often to need a key bind though?

I suspect many people would like to be able to toggle/hold a key/button to enable/disable the side panels.

Quite often when I'm flying and want to look around, I do not want the panels appearing and getting in my way... And when operation the ship normally, I probably do. So their purpose/usefulness comes and goes.

A hold/toggle would sort it out. Not a one off setting in options.

where is the look at function turned on/ off in 1.5? in the right hand panel, or under options/controls?

Not looked in 1.5... But in Horizons (2.0) it's in control options (key binding etc). And all you can do it define where to show them, or hide them basically. You cannot simply set a bind to enable/disable them from appearing with head look.

I know I am late to the party on this one, but just discovered this in the control settings under "Mode Switches". Fantastic that FD have provided this option. Thanks. :)

What its description?
In the Control Settings under the Mode Switches section there are four options, Looking at Target Panel, Looking at Comms Panel, Looking at Role Panel, Looking at Systems Panel. They can each be set to Does Nothing.
