Hello!
The learning curve on Elite Dangerous is notoriously steep, so I had an idea.
An OPTIONAL idea, before anyone says anything about hand holding.
When you first start the game as a new CMDR, this option is on by default, but can be turned off and on at any time.
You can also set it to not show the same tip again, but keep new tips coming.
Basically all it does, is under certain circumstances, you'll receive a helpful tip from the Pilots Federation.
For example, the new C&P system WILL confuse a new player, who doesn't visit the forums or anything. So when you get a bounty placed on you the first time, you receive a message detailing what that means, the consequences of it, and how to get rid of it.
You can then set the message to "never show again" and/or delete it.
With the codex thingie we might be getting, it can also just point you to the relevant entry, maybe with a dedicated button to do so.
Thoughts?
I don't like hand holding in games, but i also think it's a bad design if you need to Google what something means because there is no in-game information anywhere, this idea is a sort of middle ground between the two.
Short tips and lore should also be on the loading screen, which many many games do these days, and is surprisingly helpful.
