OPTIONS CONTROLS columns

I'm new to this game and would like to know about the columns in the attached pic.

Not sure what you're asking exactly, but this is where you map your controls, and the two columns allow for two different assignments. For example "Select Target Ahead" could be [Joy 3] and X, or whatever you want. Click in the box and then press the desired assignment.

Worth noting that if you want to use an analogue device (such as a joystick) for something it should go in the first column. As an example, I have an analogue mini-stick on my throttle that I use for Up / Down / Forward / Reverse thrusters, so assign those in the first column, and could also use the four arrow keys on my keyboard to control those thrusters too, in which case I could assign them in the second column.

The difference is that the mini-stick will allow 'bleed', so if I push it up, but also slightly right my ship will thrust up right, not straight up, but if I use the arrow keys (digital) there can be no 'bleed'.

Two possibilities to trigger each of these commands. And a few more if you assign both the analogue and digital inputs for the thrusters.

So you can trigger the same command e.g. either through a physical joystick button or through a keyboard key. Can be useful if you want to swap between sticks and kb+m, or if you want to use sticks and some macro command tool which can then emulate keyboard commands.

It's simply a column for each binding available, so for each line of these you can bind two seperate keys that will do the same thing.

If for no better reason that on some occasions you want to press a different button.

One advanced use case for this would be for something like Voice attack, it's a macro software that triggers commands by voice, or other defined key presses.
I then would bind the first column to my stick, and the second to keyboard buttons, and VA uses the keyboard commands.

Thank you for the information regarding the columns. I now have the Logitech G X56 HOTAS assignments in the left column and VoiceAttack in the right column.
