OR text chat

Don't get me wrong I praise Frontier for having the vision to early adopt Oculus Rift and implement it in this awesome game. One thing, however, when trying to chat type from the keyboard while wearing this thing that looks like a diving mask with no vision, ..... hmmm I find difficult to do. I'm constantly lifting it up to type something, then putting it back on to send the message. kills the immersion factor there...

One Request Please, could you add a drop down on screen keyboard (when oculus rift is enable only) that when the user enters into the comm chat box, allows the user to use his/her mouse to type the message. It sort of follows the IPAD implementation when you place the cursor inside a text box, the keyboard drops down up. In this case the user is allowed to mouse click out the message on the keyboard, then mouse click send (addition key)

thanks.

Speech to text (dictation) is coming "soon" to voice attack. Not sure when though. If you really want it now, there is always DNS, the $600 usd version :(

I guess it doesn't help for chatting, but one thing I did was add the phonetic alphabet into Voice Attack for use in typing out star system names in the Galaxy Map

What i have been doing with my rift, is in the appconfig file I add the following lines after /display (under EDLaunch\Products\FORC-FDEV-D-1002 in windows)

<StereoExtraDisplay>
<Enabled>true</Enabled>
<Monitor>0</Monitor>
<Width>900</Width>
<Height>1000</Height>
<VSync>false</VSync>
<BehaviourIfStereoRenderDisabled>HideWindow</BehaviourIfStereoRenderDisabled>
</StereoExtraDisplay>

For the rift this creates a second window with an undistorted view of what you will see in the rift, for streaming purposes

I use Borderless Gaming to then drag the rifts window to the rift and the windows key + F6 to maximize it there ( an option you have to turn on in Borderless Gaming)

Then if i need to type i can take the rift off and set it on my desk and still see the text window.

I tend to try to use voice comms though with the Rift, even if the other player does not talk on a mic, they can still hear you

If you want and have the possibilities check THIS THREAD.

But can we could also bring a old friend back from the 90', the old "T9" we would not need a complete keyboard but a simple numberpad with letters. :D

Ideally for VR you'd want a gesture based keyboard with something like the razer hydra / sixense STEM system. I have a keyboard for android called MessagEase that uses a 3x3 configuration where you swipe in and out from fields. I've trained myself to type very fast with it now. The same needs to be implemented for the VR controllers like the stem system. But it needs to be part of the VR sdk.

I don't have an OR but why can't you use your keyboard? I have two dots on the F and J key to know where my fingers go for typing. I can type blind. Currently I play with joystick and left hand on keyboard for hotkeys.

With VA the keyboard is normally out of the way, so the solution is still voice or a pointer on a virtual keyboard, with the mouse, joys or by the rift view.

some ships have a keyboard on the left side, can we put our "real" keyboard on the same side and when typing, the ship keyboard could highlight the keys been pressed? and maybe, the middle little screen on the ship ( between your legs) can be use as a chat box ?
