At some point adding passenger mechanics will give the Orca more purpose but the jump range still needs a tweak to make this work.
little things like heavily populated tourism systems will give this ship and its brethren a purpose, Maybe a community goal where a star is going supernova and we need to evacuate the entire population of a system within a month starting with low prices and as it gets close and more risky to jump in (solar flares damaging systems, looters ect) the prices skyrocket
Hell yeah I would be one of the last pilots out to quite doing that hehehe
EDIT: just how many Orca's would you need to clear out 10 billion people in a month (someone do the math) and then all the other gear that the transports could assist with.
A quick google reports 30 supernova per second in the observable universe so how many in the milky way, enough for an excuse for one per year I would think
EDIT 2: I did the math
Assuming 250kg per passenger (cargo/life support/ect) quite generous really
Orca 72T capacity
288 people per trip
10,000,000,000 people
34,722,222.22 trips to evac everyone.
And why would you not just grab a T9 ect
Well the orca is a passenger ship so it has the life support/plumbing/entertainment capabilities for passengers, to make it balanced other transports need say 1 tonne per passenger... as each passenger cabin is like a modular Japanese cube hotel.
