Orf into the big black, what!

Dear fellows,

I have decided that because I have been living such a hedonistic kill, kill, kill lifestyle recently what with all the bounty hunting and HAZ RES loitering, that I would undertake a journey of renewal!

Now I had considered finding religion, yoga, onion head abuse, advanced alcoholism and cheese, what!

After throwing those ideas in the psychological bin, I decided to head orf into the big black for a while to find either myself or that chap named Ted who held the doors open on the number 42 the other day, what!

I offer for your perusal the exploration vessel I intend to take on this expedition of daring do, what.

The James Cook

Now I do realise that it is somewhat heavy on the combat preparedness, however I just can't shake the feeling that I am going to run into something out their in the big black, what?

I do know that there are rumours of some latest technology being made available soon by those eggheads and boffins from FD based out of god knows where, what! but my mind is made up and I will be setting orf for the far galactic rim at 2030 hrs GMT on this fine day in the year of the adjustable wrench 3302.

Any input or advice that me and my invisble potatoe people may use to avoid the dreaded space madness, would be greatly appreciated.

Take a fuel scoop, don't die. Other than that, you can have everyone tell you everything they know, but you can only learn by doing it.
Face away from civilisation, and jump.

I recommend swapping the 5A shield for a 3D and the life support and sensors to D rated. You'll get a good few extra LY on the jump range and you don't need to big a shield out in the black.

I'd also swap out the docking computer for an AFMU.

In addition not really sure you need 3 fuel tanks. :)

Take gin and snacks on top of your freeze dried rations or it gets pretty awful facing another freeze dried lancaster hot pot with dumplings on day 100

And don't forget the tonic. Without it, Gin becomes uncivilised and alcoholism beckons. While we're at it, take some jars of sliced lemons, too. And a freezer for the ice.
Fly safe, Old Bean.

And another one catches the bug... :D

Have fun, dude. I think you'll be the best explorer ever, as you're already eccentric. Which is just a kind of madness. :)

I'd switch the 6C fuel tank for a 6A Fuel scoop, add in a heat sink launcher in one of your hard points and as noted above add in an AMFU there somewhere. You'll still keep your combat ability (not that you'll need it), but you'll also be prepared for those close encounters of the binary kind. I'd drop the military grade composite as well, but that's just me (my AspX has no weapons).

The 6A fuel scoop costs a bomb. When I went to Sag A I had a 6B which was a fraction of the cost and still fueled the ship very quickly.

The Armor will cost you, but not how you might think!
No 'Horizons"? Planetary Vehicle Bay, if you do have it, what?

Farewell, ol' chap! Be sure to pack a lunch! You're going to be out there for a while... Do please be careful, what! I'd hate to loose one of our best to the space madness!

Good look out there, Citizen. I'm afraid I shall be remaining behind in civilized space, ensuring the weak and innocent do not suffer in your absence.

Godspeed, Good Sir.

Don't forget to pack a good supply of Fat Jack's Tash Wax. And I also recommend a Kents A81T Comb - perfect for absently tending to one's facial foliage whilst piloting.

Also, having named your ship as you have you are inviting catastrophe. I do sincerely hope you DON'T discover another Australia!!!

I reckon our good chap thelion will be the first to make contact with the Thargoids.

Lion, don't forget to take some tea with you, and a few crumpets!

Thelion,

Your Asp is quite heavy indeed, when you're a few hundred ly outside the bubble you don't need all that weight.
I'm on a long planned trip and use this setup.
As you can see I have almost all systems disabled outside the bubble, the produce heat and you want to be as cool as possible in case you come out of jump close to a hot star or stars.

The only defence I carry is a lightweight shield and a chaff launcher for when I return to the bubble.

Good luck out there and fly save Commander.
