Is this an accurate summary of organizations that existed before Elite: Dangerous?
Galactic Cooperative of Worlds: sort of like the League of Nations, or the U.N. at its weakest during the Cold War. Meant to be a peace forum for humanity, but failed because of the animosity between the the Federation and Empire. Somehow had its own navy (which doesn't make a lot of sense to me unless there are a lot of non-aligned independent worlds supporting GalCop, because I don't think either the Feds or Imps were interested in that), and later dwindled in power because of-
Intergalactic Naval Reserve Arm: a joint defense military force between the Federation and the Empire, which I guess is a bit like GalCop except backed by the strongest two superpowers. Sounds like a real force to reckon, should a threat external to humanity appears. Seems to replace-
Interpol: GalCop goes from being the U.N. (interstellar peacekeepers) to being an interstellar police force, which raises the question whose law they're keeping, since there's no one interstellar government. But maybe all of the various governments (including the Federation and Empire) agree to some laws between them, sort of like international law in the real world. Doesn't seem to appear in Elite: Dangerous yet, but would be cool because playing as space police officer might be a different feel from playing as a privateer.
So, my questions are:
1. Is the above vaguely accurate, given the current unsettled state between Elite: Dangerous and the lore of previous games?
2. Am I missing any other organizations of note?
3. Does anyone think that the Alliance might be a successor organization to GalCop? I mean they're both vaguely democratic, loosely-assembled groups of "everyone else." Though instead of being the U.N., the Alliance is more akin to the Non-Aligned Movement that existed during the Cold War-- "everyone else" besides NATO and the Warsaw Pact.
