Orgs etc.

Please explain what a full-fledged org system is. What do you want it to do?

I know this has been covered before - but there has never been any real answer. I would like to condense everything about why Org existence should be realised here.

Not about individual groups - just simply why people feel why it is necessary and all the great things it will accomplish.

Mods - if you feel this is superfluous then please delete - I don't intend this thread to berate/belittle others or their opinions - I simply want to see the reasoning and answers as described above.
 
I feel it's a bit like nation states. Or even city states. If you consider the private group or your friends list your 'tribe' then in terms of social interaction you have all you really need. You can add to that or take away from it as you like. In terms of co-operative play and having fun with your buddies, I seriously see no need for anything further. Anyone who says anything different is either lying to you or to himself.

Organisations/Guilds/Corporations (which fulfill the above function in other games) have a secondary use (which isn't needed in Elite Dangerous because of the friendslist and the alliance setup) which is for a like minded group of people who have another goal. It moves beyond the tribal group to the city state where more mechanisms are needed to organise different functions that work together for a greater goal. The people in THIS organisation aren't necessarily all friends or even know each other.

PS. And I'm not even a pro-guilder but I was trying to give an honest answer as to why people would want such a mechanism. I just happen to think it'd take ED in a direction I don't want to see it go in.

Good job there on not belittling people... Whilst I agree with you in not wanting guilds in the game we really shouldn't be engaging in these types of posts.
 
The thread itself in asking for clear cut answers wasn't a bad idea though.

while getting answers is always good this thread could be seen as bait, if anyone did post answers they would get jumped on by about 50 users posting various forums of 'ah but its not Elite - we don't need it'

would you walk willingly into the lions den?
 
This thread is odd. I'm with Asp... I think, in not seeing a need for guilds, it looks like Asp may be trolling for people to argue in favour of them... I prefer the more reasoned debates on the other threads though.

I can see a benefit

I always found a problem with guilds in most games since there were never enough members that were my level to group up with. ED has no levels to I can see a benefit to having a guild to easily keep track of friends lists. I am not that great at keeping one myself and would group up with someone I did not know from Adam if they were in my guild. I see it as a friends list that I did not need to grow or maintain.

I can also see things like:
1)Cooperation at a guild level were a Type 9 or Anaconda or 2 is there to pick up the loot while a few Cobras are knocking ships out. Have to be good at scooping up cargo. Should be able to set the group loot to share when the Type 9 goes back to sell.
2)Same as above but as group bounty hunters sharing the bounty paid
3)Group exploration or Grouped merchants and body guards for really high value cargo.
These may be things that are also available as a PUG but with no level restrictions anyone in a guild that is online can join in for some group support and share in the profit without fear of a rouge PUG member logging off with all the loot. I joined a PUG on a PvP server once and one guy killed the whole group before we could figure out what he was up too. Kinda takes the fun of meeting people out of the game.
 
Is this not more a feature request discussion for the ED game.
Then a game development discussion.
The low response might be related to be in the wrong place of the thread is.
