Original Ships - Which ones should come back?

Which ships would you like to make a return? If I had my way, it would be all of them, as I love choice! When making your selection, describe what role you would like it to fill, and how many internals, hard points etc you think it should have etc. Taken from this great website: http://www.jades.org/arc/elite/dcdex.htm

Feel free to select more than one ship you'd love to see again! And I don't want anyone coming forward saying "all these ships are obsolete" etc. Or that basing their opinions solely on the description. Remember, all ships can come back with a fresh start. And the Panther Clipper isn't here, I know. But that ship always gets chosen anyway.

Not all of those are original!

From the original, original ones it has to be the Krait. Even if it's rubbish, it looked the business.

Or maybe a lumbering boa.

I think I would love to see a Constrictor. The stealth ship from the original game.
A version of the wireframe is my Avatar ;)

Although I remember the Transporter with fondness too. Plus don't get me started on the Mamba...

My first experience of Elite was the Electron version with the cut-down ship set. The Mamba became the 'main' pirate fighter almost by default, so I've always missed it from later versions.

Like the Krait, probably wouldn't add much to gameplay...but more variety always good...

This might have been done... a few dozen times already, but... in no particular order

From Orginal 1984 Elite (actually the Boa and Moray may have only popped up by the later Spectrum and Commador versions)

Krait
Mamba
Boa
Morey Star Boat
Gecko

From Frontier and First Encounters

Constrictor
Imperial Trader (which is probebly now just the Cutter)
Wyvern Explorer
Mantis Transport (Alliance)

Hinted ships in Elite Dangerous

Manticore (Alliance experimental ship)

In another thread someone suggested that the worm craft or landing shuttles could be NPC only, just as a bit of flavour between the surface and the stations. No reason why they couldn't be PC, but NPC only would save the hassle of designing the inside.

Oh, from Frontier the Lion would be a laugh - I think that was the one where you could actually shoot yourself.

Ooo I like this idea! Give the stations and ports a bit more life to them!

Gecko!

Wheres the poll?

Decided not to add a poll. I like more discussion than a tick box exercise :)

If you're referring to the bug where the turrets wouldn't switch from upper to lower, then it wasn't the Lion, it was either the Boa or Anaconda (pretty sure it was the Boa as it was the bigger of the two and it was the ship I had before getting my hands on the Panther Clipper). I found that bug the painful way when I had a small plasma accelerator on the upper turret and an enemy ship flew under me... I destroyed myself within a second (the plasma accelerators were so much more powerful back then).

Regarding the original question... I'd like to see ALL ships from the previous 3 games, even if some of them could really only be NPC either because of limited functionality (landing shuttle, worm landing craft) or being less powerful than a Sidewinder (Gecko, Moray Star Boat, Hawk, Kestrel, etc), more variety can only improve the atmosphere of the game...

That's the one. I did exactly the same thing. It was a real 'what just happened?' moment.

Krait !!!

And Moray Starboat, with the ability to go underwater wherever water is present.

Moray, great suggestion, underwater travel sounds just the thing.

I'm fairly convinced that the Lakon Type whatevers are the follow-ons from the Transporter. The Transporter was described as being a Lakon ship and also has a box-like shape (actually it was a mains plug with the author's initials on it, but anyway).

Large ships at outposts with only small medium pads could buy/sell goods via shuttles run by NPC's without docking.

All of the above should be in game. ;)

The Mirage already exists in E: D in the same form it did in FE2.

ie. Not at all :)

It was nothing more than a hoax perpetrated by one Amiga magazine to prove a point in those pre-internet days when cheats and tips for games were hard to come by, and the magazines used to plagiarise one another. It was duly repeated by every other magazine on the market, despite being a total fabrication.
