Newcomer / Intro Orion The Great Hunter

Anyone know where to look in the deep space for the Orion constellation? Is it a place that can be reached?
There are over 200 stars in the constellation Orionis. And 747 more with a name that ends in "Orionis" in and around the Orion Nebula. :)

They all are reachable in game. Not all stars listed in the Wikipedia as belonging to constellation Orionis are in game, at least with the names in the list - I found 217 (of which 214 from the Wikipedia list).

Pretty much the only place you'll be able to recognise the constellation Orion is from the Sol system.

The stars that make the constellation are not necessarily near each other. For example, Betelgeuse is about 640LY from Sol, whereas Sirius is only 8.6LY away.

I guess you could Wiki the individual stars in Orion, find out their catalogue names and/or coordinates and look them up individually in the galaxy map to plot a route.

Most can be found in game by their HIP catalogue numbers (see my previous post).

Yes, you can.

I don't think he wants to look at all the stars with the Orionis designation though; he specifically references the constellation, not visiting stars in and around the Orion Nebula (although that would, in and of itself, be fun.)

If you are interested in the constellation Orion, be sure to visit Mintaka in-game. That is the rightward most star in Orion's Belt. It's a fun system with a black hole, just 600 or so ly from the colonized bubble.

First, Mintaka is indeed cool, and isn't very far from colonized space. Plus it'll put some good cash in your bank (especially if you have a Detailed Surface Scanner).

Second, to save you some disappointment, I wouldn't expect popular individual star systems and systems around and inside popular nebulae to have many undiscovered astronomical objects. You'll still make a great paycheck, so they're still worth it for the creds if nothing else. However, there's nothing wrong with trying to find an object that other explorers missed. That's still totally possible.

Good luck, dat789bb, and have fun :)
