Osmium miners required at Abres.

If I don't mine it but pick up a few 100 from other systems and drop it off again the location does that count as well or do I have to blast it out myself?
I am collecting statistics about mining drops. It appears that different planetary rings have slightly different compositions in terms of what they drop. I'm trying to figure out how to quantify that (probably as a series of charts and a methodology for mapping the most likely drops in a system) but ...
... Anyhow, polahukuna doesn't drop very well and was very thin in osmium. Jura 6 / A ring is a lot better and appears to drop lots of osmium and painite. Depending on the size of your ship and how big a load you want to carry it may be worth the extra flight-time to go the additional 150ly or thereabouts. 20 Ophiuchi / 7 A ring is high in platinum and palladium and gold.
Once I have my measurement process down, I will set it up so that others can enter their drop data into a google form and I'll do a short posting about how to "fingerprint" a system. That way, miners who are looking for a specific metal can know where it drops in large quantities. (Not that I really care: I just mine everything, but it's fun to figure out these things)
Alkupai 12 inner ring is pristine metallic and gives great yields of Osmium, Palladium, Platinum and Painite.
Sure, you need to vent the mineral crud but I've had ocassional rocks giving 40%-50% of Platinum and 30%-40% Painite.
I can see a flaw in your "fingerprinting" idea Surly_Badger. I collect everything then vent the unwanted minerals when my drones expire, head a kilometer or 2 away and start again.
By the time I'm done, I'm loaded with precious metals and skewing the output figures for this system on your spreadsheet.

Am in the area, is there any information regarding the militarys involvment in this? Also how involved are people with this if theres only three days left is it worth it to try and get it done?

How do you find these? Cant see anything on gal net
They do appear on galnet, however the ingame galnet is usually flovor stories. Ive got the galnet app and that is much more helpful, but I think I heard about this on raido sidewinder.
I am somwhat worried by the rumors of a military build up because of this, has anybody heard anything in regards to the use of this osmium?
How many people are doing this also? I delivered about 12 osmium last night and it said I was in the top 15% only like 75 have been delivered so far.

The average is 44t, so top 15% with more than 75 sounds about right. Top 5% is somewhere between 100 and 200.
Its dropped back now more is comming in. Are you in a t9 friend what ship has 400 cargo space? Usually stock up all the way with drones as well. Do you use prospector lims?
The Abres CG seems to have been removed. I guess FD realized this CG wasn't going anywhere, and pulled the plug on it.
The time ran out. I don't know what FD wad thinking when they started this mining cg, but it is very disappointing. It feels more like a copy/paste of other cg's with not much thought put into the number of participants and the arduous nature of mining.

Thought there was two more days! Uper fail if true, by last I saw we had only 166 peices in, not nearly enough for first tier.
