(other) signal source in random system what is it and where is it?

Ok so maybe this is a bug, but 45 minutes in this system and i am chasing a phantom signal, its a random system previously unexplored and i have dropped in and there was a ELW (ringed) so off i went to scan that.

then there was a landable very close moon with some interesting canyons and volcanism so i thought ok this is going to make an awesome picture so off i went to probe it.

now the FSS did not pick anything up... but when i probed the planet i got 1 signal detected "other (1)" but nothing on the nav panel, or in contacts or on the surface map?

how do i unravel this mystery or is it a bug???

I have found that "other (1)" to be abandoned settlements. If it isn't showing up after mapping the planet then maybe it is one of those unregistered communication beacons in space?

Someone posted a while back and I can't find it now but they said a signal source that says "other" is some sort of mission generated location, it probably won't be there if you re-log.

yes like at the cornflux beacon but that shows up in the nav panel as an "unregistered comms beacon" and they communicate at certain times with messages.

i've re-logged and its still there, just not in the contacts or nav panel, there is something in this system but where?!?! how do i unlock it? will flying over the surface of the planet reveal it if i fly close enough?

and its only around this moon, if i scan or target other objects it disappears, if i lock target onto this moon i get [signals detected] "other(1)"

That does sound interesting and I think it indicates a surface settlement or crashed ship that may only appear on the nav panel if you are within 1000 ls. The [Other] designation can also apply to some close-orbiting installations, although you ought to be able to see those on the FSS view even if not within 1000 ls.
.
Moons of Earthlike Worlds only very rarely have volcanism: only a couple are known. I would suggest submitting it to marx's Earth-like World list once you've turned in the data.

im within 1000ls as ive probed it ;)

there's about 3 more volcanic locations i haven't visited yet but i just cant get a fix on this other(1) signal, is it worth orbiting the whole planet?

If you don't find anything I would bug report it. It could be that there is something there but it hasn't been tagged to show up after a probing. Or it could be nothing and a shadow signal. Either way they would both be bugs and if they say it's working as intended then you know there is something else down there that needs finding with the old Mk1 eyeball.

i will sent support an e-mail otherwise location is revealed, if there is something here be nice to claim discovery rights :)

Interesting I think I had similar last night

Had gone to see some spikey stellar phenomena in some rings - and I decide to probe the rings (oo er missus) I got a new signal discovered note but nothing 'new' seemed to have appeared anywhere.

It was late and I was tired so went to bed as cba investigating....

I have encountered this with the Jameson crash site just the other night. The trick there was that even though the POI would not show up on the contact list, it still appeared on the planet and could be targeted manually. (By pointing your ship at it.)

I know its a bit late, but the planet in Shinrarta that has polonium has an "Other" signal and it turned out to be a tourist beacon.
