Other Ways To Get Ships?

Tell me about it. The worst part is when you do get wind of it before it ends, but it's really close to the end and you have to hurry to contribute, so you jump in your car and drive home really fast, with the phone in one hand keeping an eye on discord to see the progress in real time, but then you don't pay attention to the road, and you ding the car, and you have to go to the police, and when you finally get home the wife is mad, so you have to explain what happened to her, and by the time you start your computer, the CG ended and it was all for nothing.

Not wanting to sound mean, but driving a vehicle is serious business. Your safety, as well as other people's, are far more important than game currency!

Drive safe at all times, there will be other cash cows in the future.

i don't like the idea of getting ships for hours of played time, but some another method to get a ship could be nice to have. In FFE (Elite 3) you got a ship for a specific quest. A very special ship indeed with jump range of 92 LY, much more than anything else. So I can imagine a very large CG with an expensive ship as a reward or just nicely tuned up version of ceratin ship (or ship that isn't available to all, like Cobra MKIV), that you cannot get by another means. Imagine a huge exploration quest with only 5 winners and Asp explorer (or Argents Quest) with 92 LY jump-range as a reward.

Hi all,

I'd really like other ways to get the more expensive ships. I don't have the time or patience to grind out hundreds of millions of credits. I also missed the recent community goal.

Maybe we could get a quest that appears for a mission chain after you have a certain amount of hours logged in the game. Maybe 50-100 hours would be a fair number?

I'm forever stuck in the cheaper ships and can't play the game how i would like. For example:

I'm a Premium Backer and can't really use the headline feature of the upcoming 2.2 patch which i've paid for. Ship launched fighters. All the decent ships that can do this are well out of my price range. The one that can do it is so limited, i wouldn't want to leave my Cobra MKIII for it.

If you are a premium backer you have access to Horizons and planetary landings.

you can earn about 600-750k for about 5 minutes worth of work if you follow the Modified embedded firmware guide.

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...List-and-Guide-for-Modified-Embedded-Firmware

---

The least expensive ship launched fighter ship I think is the Keelback

https://coriolis.io/outfit/keelback

---

Conservatively speaking you could earn enough for a keelback in 6 planetary landings.

The game prints money - you don't need a CG for it.

Same game since start. It was a slog to finally get my Imperial Courier. I had to keep refreshing the mission boards hundreds of times for my Rep. I just refuse to do the same thing over and over and over again after that.

Assuming you were endlessly refreshing for charity missions, why on earth did you choose to gain rep by the, admittedly fastest, but also the most mind-numbingly dull method that actually costs you credits instead of just taking it slower and running missions that can be fun (the whole point of playing) and make you piles of credits while you do it?

/mod hat off

i personally would like to see ships being easier available for everyone, so people would fly what they enjoy/have the most fun flying ...

many assume that the ships not being available for them are better/will make the game more fun etc. ... which isn't the case in most cases.

basically a cobra mkiii allows you do to everything, that is ingame and survive.

whether it is a cobra mkiii is the most fun for you or something else you can only find out by flying other/all ships.

the idea of ships you can fly for a mission ("bring that t9 there ... take this cutter into combat...") is a good idea - but brings with it the problem, that flying a small ship and a large ship requires very different skills (i know, what i'm talking about - i really sucked at piloting a python the first time i have flown one ... and taking my cutter into a combatzone is a different game to my usual cz ship, a dbs).

actually i think, having trainingsmissions or a "simulator system", where you can test all ships in all outfittings would be the best solution.

so people can decide whether they want to invest time to fly a ship.

i have flown all ships with my main account (the corvette only in beta), and i knew i wanted to have a courier for my second account, also knewing i don't need access to FAS, FGS, cutter or corvette.

@OP with your backer status you should gave access to beta. you can try all ships out there.

Welcome to every mmo ever.

Seriously though as others have said. To get the Anaconda, which many consider to be the best ship can be done in about 15 hours gametime last I checked. Bit more to upgrade it but its honestly tiny compared with other Mmos

That idea works fine in a single player game but in a multi player game, giving out a few special overpowered ships to a couple of players is a bad idea. In a multi player game everyone needs to ability to get the same level of equipment or the whole thing just falls apart.

As long as shields and weapons remain unaugmented, it worsk. Cobra MKIV also isn't avaiable to all players and it doesn't create any mess.

If you enjoy combat or piracy, I have written a guide to make very decent money with those two activities here:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ng-serious-money-with-piracy-and-combat-zones

I'm not saying i want the ships for nothing or no hard work, but maybe other methods that are not a grind. I can't do thousands of cargo runs. I would go nuts.

And just what do you think you will be doing with all these grandiose new ships you want...

That you can't do NOW?

I have always been an advocate of being able to get the ship of your choice faster / sooner, so I might just as well post here. From my suggestions in the past:

- credit loans

Give me the ship now, let me earn money and enjoy flying it, make me pay 10 times the price for it.

- lower ship costs, higher maintenance / running costs

What if an Anaconda were to cost just 50mil, but you'd have to pay 1mil eveytime you docked (call it a large ship docking fee)?

- ship lending

Let me fly a ship for a short period of time for large enough rental costs, send *ZA ENTERDICTIONS* after me when I don't bring it back. [cool]

- mission ships

Want me to fight in that CZ? Better give me a Vulture. Yes, I know about instant ship transfer. No, I don't have a Vulture of my own to instantly transfer here. *hangs up the comms

- black market ships

So no one really though of buying a Cutter and putting it on sale at an Anarchy port for 1billion?

Ships used to have variable running costs as a fuel tax but it was removed
Same for increased maintenance/integrity and repair costs for larger ships being more expensive

It helped differentiate the Shipyard as Lakon Ships has lower running costs to the High End Gutamaya Ships for instance.
One of the reason why today people say the Clipper is superior to the Type & in every way, is that the Clipper used to cost a fair bit to run and repair, when the Type 7 did not.

So you had an expensive to run Clipper with a tiny fuel tank, vs the low cost, large tank Lakon.

You know you could have probably had more fun playing the game, and ranked up at the same time, ended up with more credits, and not be so jaded due to refreshing the mission board hundreds of time for Rep, when it takes far less to actually just obtain a good rep by playing the game and doing missions and trade and what not as it comes up...

You only ruin it for yourself by stubbornly repeating a task you don't enjoy, rather than looking for another way to achieve you goals, in ways you enjoy.

Anyone who says there are no money making options in this game is either bone idle or woefully ignorant.

Honestly OP, Elite may not be the game for you.

Enjoying them in VR.

Stump up the 10er or whatever it is for beta and experience them when its available before updates.
You need about 250mil to buy and sell all ships since you dont need cash for outfitting.
Or that is about 40 hours playtime from a sidewinder. Google sothis and ceos.

You do the work, you get the reward. It's silly to think otherwise.

Or you do a CG. Saw this coming when they payout hit yesterday, they entirely trivialized the economy while simultaneously destroying all parity between activities which can only breed the OPs kind of thinking. Thing is, given the CG is apparently officially sanctioned (haven't heard otherwise about bugs or anything else), he's absolutely right.

Yes, you can participate in almost any activity in any ship, but the ships themselves are content to be experienced, probably some of the best developed content actually.
