Astronomy / Space Our Moon has not been named!

Why has nobody ever named our own Moon? We don't call Earth "The Planet" and yet we name other Moons around Planets. It should be called "Armstrong"!
I think it says something about us for not having the guts to name it yet.

Technically the moon's name is already that the Moon.
Our moon is simply a satellite, however since it was the first satellite we "discovered" we called it that.

When we talk of other planets' "moons" we're simply talking about the satellites that revolve around said planet. We simply call the other planets' satellites "moons" since its easier to relate to what we are talking about.

Since no doubt... duller-minded individuals would imagine say Jupiter's satellites as the artificial ones we send to space and not as well; a moon. :D

Edit: hell here you go first sentence from wikipedia. -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon
The Moon (Latin: Luna) is Earth's only natural satellite.

Moon is it's name isnt it.
The measured one or something like that it, for its time keeping of the months, the lunar calendar being important in many early cultures.

Calling the Natural Satelites of other Planets Moons is aking to calling something an "Earth like', as in they are Moon Like bodies to give a familiar reference.

Just like when people use Brand names to refer to things as if the brand name is the correct name for the item
Band-Aids are just one brand of adhesive bandages but everyone here calls all adhesive bandages Band-Aids

Luna is very Romanocentric, when Selene was the daughter of a Titan :p
& the Sumerians probably out do that

well we're going by English :p

You could argue it should be called Tsuki which is Japanese for Moon.
Every other language would argue with you on how to say it. Although considering all the celestial bodies on our system are called after roman god/ddess I agree on Luna :p

It's odd how the Moon's Earth-Rise looks almost the same size as our Earth's Moon-Rise considering our planet is 3 times that of the moon.

The word "Moon" has been around far longer than the 1st time anyone knew other moons existed! So it never needed another name, it was and is "The Moon". It wasn't until the early 17th Century that Gallileo discovered other moons around Jupiter. I've been close up to the actual lens he used in his telescope, which was pretty mind blowing if you like that sort of thing. It's housed in an amazing museum in Florence. If you pardon the pun it's nothing much to look at! Just a lump of misty glass surrounded with a very ornate frame. However when FD finally bless us with surface landings, I definitely think the 3 most important bases on the Moon should be named Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins.

If we ever find many planets like earth we may start calling them earths or earth like.

But we have not found and which is why other planets we call names not related to earth.

In the case of the moon there is many other bodies like it we also call moons for simplicity.

As already said the name of our moon is moon and it therefore does not require another name.

It is a bit like people call many jeep like cars jeeps but there is also a make called jeep.

The name accepted by the scientific community is Luna (for the moon) and Terra (for the earth). Just as NASA did not officially call the craft that land on the moon as moon lander (it is called a Lunar Lander) and moon rover (it is called the Lunar rover), we are not earthlings but are actually Terrans. Also the proper name of the sun in not the sun but is instead Sol.
