Out exploring and a minor setback.....

So I'm heading out on my second trip out exploring, first was a 1000lys out. So this is going to be a little further, at least 3000lys. The setback is I got attacked by a Elite Eagle pirate, 500lys out from the border systems. I was taken by surprise, didn't expect pirates this far out! So I took 30% hull damage, I checked my modules to see if I had any serious damage. My thrusters are at 53% and my power plant is at 68%. Just wondering if I should turn back or carry on, any thoughts?

Oof.

That's too much damage for me; I'd be off to the very nearest repair-capable station and then restart my trip.

Carry on..Your hull is at 70%, you will soon be out of yahoo space into pure explorers territory. Just be careful scooping and dont jump into any binaries. You dont need your thrusters to any great extent and the power plant is fine at 68%. I hit a binary and hull went down to 34%. I made it back though.

Go back, repair and wait to 1.2 to go live.
than get a hull hull maintenance unit and field maintenance units before heading out again

Keep in mind that when 1.2 drops heat damage affects modules more than the hull, so you might need to exercise caution when scooping.

Don't think I'm going to head 3000lys out this time, think I'll just hit the 1000 mark and turn back. Just hope I don't get any more surprises on this trip.:S

All it takes is one moment of lack of concentration. I was heading for the rim, jumped into a binary, Hull went from 92% to 34%. Cut my losses and headed back. Best thing to do is set yourself a threshold and keep to it. For me it was 60% Hull, any less and I return. I am waiting for the 1.2 update before I head back out.
